Words and images about the year-round lifestyle of fishing with a fly rod and flies. Lake Huites: No Fly Rod Snipe Hunt. This looks like the greatest snipe hunt in history, I spoke out loud to no one in particular. That off-hand comment broke the silence in the Trophy Bass Lodge van as our group of traveling Don Quixote anglers continued to climb up a road that would do a mountain biker proud. But after arriving at the spacious and beautiful lodge and stowing our gear and being warmly greeted by co-owner...

Bass: Poppers, Porcelain Thrones and Bowling Balls. 8221; — John Gierach, “Texas” essay in “Dances with Trout”. There is just something terribly satisfying about watching the chug-chug of a bass popper get violently interrupted by a falling bowling ball. What is the take of a bass hitting a topwater popper like? By a big bass.

http://robshuntingjournal.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 2, 2011. SYC Deer Hunt 2011. The first morning in the stand turned out to be a good one. We saw a total of 7 deer, all does and fawns, and Logan was able to harvest a nice doe. This was Logan's first deer, and it was great that he and his dad were able to share the moment together. The biggest buck of the weekend was shot by a young man named Graham who bagged this really nice 10-point! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Become a Fan on Facebook. Rob's Hunting Journal. Rob's Hunting Journal: June 2011

http://robshuntingjournal.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 5, 2011. Earlier this spring I found a unique deer antler while I was shed hunting. It is a very non-typical and heavy antler with lots of character. But, it looked like it had been laying out in the weather for a couple years and it was bleached completely white. I used a fresh antler as reference and tried to make the base of the antler darker and fade it into a slightly lighter color toward the end. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Become a Fan on Facebook. Monday, February 28, 2011. First Fresh Shed Antler of the Year. I've been out shed hunting a few times already this year and have found a number of old antlers from previous years that were faded and chalky. But last week I managed to find a really nice fresh one that had just recently dropped. But what did the other side look like? Take a look at that drop-tine! Sunday, February 27, 2011. A few weeks back we had some winter weather arrive here in North Texas. We had some icy road conditions topped o...

Wednesday, January 24, 2018. John 15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. Determined to find an alternative location to fish, I’d driven twice to the new Mark Oliver access on Crooked Creek to check water levels. A man stopped with a pickup and canoe attached and was confused on wheth...
