The newspaper equivalent of church buildings turned into condos. 8220;Is it possible to build something bold rather than shrink what we have? I’ve long noticed a similarity in the challenges and need for innovation of these two institutions whose place and authority were once presumed in our culture. Should look lik...

Inter(n)connections: May 2011

Monday, May 2, 2011. Just as I was heading to bed last night, the news stormed in: Osama bin Laden had been killed. A tired but relieved President Obama insisted that "on nights like this one, we can say to those families who have lost loved ones to al Qaeda’s terror: Justice has been done.". President Obama announces Osama bin Laden's death. Three trillion dollars and over 5800 casualties later, it is not death that we should celebrate. Monday, November 29, 2010. Rabbi Abraham Heschel once noted: "Man is a messenger who forgot the message.". First Parish, I have come to believe, is where we messengers re/member the message. Ajeet's loss is both stunning and deeply saddening. My heart breaks, my soul tears. But he will not be forgotten. So satguru piara ...

Sweet-tooths take center stage, while other ghoulish figures lurk in the shadows, tending to the stock of chocolate surprises. The 19th c. Unitarian Minister and his Shadow. That is not to say, of course, that death necessarily curtails our fantasy - or that it marks the end of our journeys. But its certainty provokes fear. And Halloween is when we get to act that fear out. Last mo...

Inter(n)connections: Weeping
http://internconnections.blogspot.com/2011/04/weep.html
Thursday, April 14, 2011. This past Sunday, Parisa introduced evil back into our Universalist campaign for an outloving Love. She referenced a memorable anecdote about an elderly gentleman who approached her years ago in the receiving line with the words: 'It's good to be reminded of evil from time to time.' The privilege of having to be reminded! Do you have to be reminded? Or are you reminded in more regular intervals? In the words of poet Anne Porter:. We're still in Babylon but
. We do not weep
