Most of the boats that you will see moored on the off side of the Canal opposite the towpath between Sale Bridge and Marsland Bridge are privately owned and belong to Members of the Sale Cruising Club (see www.salecruisingclub.co.uk. There are also two rowing clubs along our stretch of the Canal: Manchester University Rowing Club, based just north of Dane Road Bridge, and Trafford Rowing Club, whose boathouse is in Walton Park. The Friends Group has provided two litter bins. One is on the opposite bank to the Bridge Inn at Sale and the other is on the towpath near Raglan Road. In 1795 work commenced in extending the Bridgewater Canal from Worsley to the township of Leigh. The group Friends of the Bridgewater Canal (Sale). Concerns itself with a four kilometre stretch of the Canal which runs north to south through Sale from the bridge carrying the M60 in the north to Timperley Bridge (Park Road) in the south. The Canal more or less bisects Sale east from west. It is Sale's most significant feature, historically fascinating and very attractive in places.
