A Brief History of South Kyme. Where do I start? The recorded history of South Kyme goes back to Mediaeval times. The name of South Chime appears in the Domesday Book (1086). At this time the estates belonged to the king, William the Conqueror. Around 1100 AD South Kyme passed into the possession of William de Kyme whose family built a castle, all but a single tower of which has either fallen into ruins or otherwise demolished. South Kyme, an attractive Lincolnshire fenland village, lies about 10 miles northeast of the market town of Sleaford on the B1395 that runs north from the A17 towards the A153 at North Kyme. On Saturday 13 th. August 2011 the inaugural Boules session was held on the new South Kyme Pétanque Terrain at the rear of Coronation Hall. The event was complemented by a splendid BBQ and licensed bar run by CMJ Bars. By my reckoning around 100 people turned out to take part in this historic occasion.
