Hokkaido, the northernmost island of the Japanese archipelago, equivalent in size to Ireland, is nearly two hours’ flight north of Tokyo. Winter is the dominant season there and it arrives early, with autumn colour arriving in early September, the landscape snow covered by the end of October, and no sign of a thaw until late April. At its coldest the temperature plummets to minus 14 degrees centigrade. The 240 hectare Tokachi Millennium Forest. Whereas a light touch such as this is all that is required, ...

This historic property is widely regarded as the most accomplished house and garden to come out of the early 20th century garden and landscape partnership between Edwin Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll. In 2009 we were invited to produce a new landscape design masterplan for both the gardens and surrounding landscape, to move the gardens successfully into the 21st century.

This Georgian rectory in the Cotswolds is an historic property. In the late 1800’s the Reverend Edward Litton lived here, and was sometimes visited by his friend from Oxford, Charles Dodgson - better known as Lewis Carroll. It is said that Litton's daughter, Alice, was the inspiration for the heroine of 'Alice in Wonderland'. A new Southern terrace takes its footprint from the proportion of the house, and is designed for evening entertaining since it gets the last of the summer sunshine. The planting...

This 15 acre garden is located within the walls of a medieval hilltop village in the foothills of the Apennine Mountains, an hour's drive from Rome. Work here began in 1995 at the same time as Gae Aulenti, (architect of the Musée ‘d’Orsay) began the restoration of the buildings to provide living accommodation. 20 ancient pomegranates were chosen to frame the entrance courtyard, and huge camphor trees close over the approach as you enter through the castle walls. Everything was chosen to feel right in the...
