October in the Garden – Grey Tabby Gardens
https://greytabbygardens.com/2016/10/29/october-in-the-garden
Growing Flowers in Central Florida. October in the Garden. October 29, 2016. It’s so lovely to feel a chill in the air in the early mornings, a sign that our heat and humidity are past and we can look forward to cooler and drier days. Here and there are a few signs of autumn. A few of my orchids which live outside most of the summer under the shade of some trees are starting to flower. This one looks a fitting color with the lichens, silver bark and air plant. Plumbago is just that perfect shade of blue!
February 2016 – Grey Tabby Gardens

Growing Flowers in Central Florida. February 20, 2016. Our rather upside down winter and early spring have contributed to some unexpected color combinations in the garden this week. I’m not sure if I should be embarrassed by them or if I should just enjoy them while they last! The azaleas are flowering on time but my terrestrial orchids, of which I have large … More Splashes of Color. I'm delighted you paid a visit! New Year in the Cutting Garden. October in the Garden. Looking Forward – Grey Tabby Gardens
https://greytabbygardens.com/2016/01/31/looking-forward
Growing Flowers in Central Florida. January 31, 2016. September 25, 2016. As we were close to a frost twice this week, they suddenly all decided to drop their leaves and the lawn now looks very autumnal! I have really been loving the Hyacinths. Even before they are fully up and open they are so pretty. I heven tucked a few into a few little mercury glasses. Even just one gives of such a powerful fragrance. I have added some silver birch twigs into the pots too because Tulips tend to get a bit floppy....

Growing Flowers in Central Florida. February 20, 2016. September 25, 2016. Our rather upside down winter and early spring have contributed to some unexpected color combinations in the garden this week. I’m not sure if I should be embarrassed by them or if I should just enjoy them while they last! Even the cardinals are adding pops of color amongst the flowers. Bees are everywhere enjoying the new flowers…. On the Mystic Spires Salvia…. The container plants…. I enjoyed two big sprays from La Marne rose in...
March 2016 – Grey Tabby Gardens
https://greytabbygardens.com/2016/03
Growing Flowers in Central Florida. March 19, 2016. This year I wanted to really focus on growing my own cut flowers in the garden. I always took this for granted in England but Florida can be a little tricky because of our almost nonexistent winter and long, hot and humid summer. I have had to experiment about what to plant and when for … More First Cut Flowers. Wildflowers and a Spring Beach Walk. March 8, 2016. Wildflowers and a Spring Beach Walk. A Small, Sunny Garden: A Wildflower for Wednesday
https://smallsunnygarden.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-wildflower-for-wednesday.html
A Small, Sunny Garden. A small garden in the English style, set in the wilds of the northern Sonora Desert. Bibliography and Inspirational Material. Wednesday, August 12, 2015. A Wildflower for Wednesday. This has had its influence on me too. I have been known to indulge in the dubious (from a gardening perspective) practice of leaving a wildling to grow "to find out what it is". Generally, it was not something to be recommended for a civilized garden! I am using it as a temporary groundcover in areas wh...

A Small, Sunny Garden. A small garden in the English style, set in the wilds of the northern Sonora Desert. Bibliography and Inspirational Material. Friday, August 7, 2015. The Wild Tree: August. Today's walk to see the wild tree proved to be a voyage of discovery. The few rains we have had during July have altered the landscape in many ways. The first surprise was finding a couple of blooms of Desert Poppy open. at last! These marvelous wildflowers (Kallstroemia grandiflora, see my post from last year.
About the Garden - A Small Sunny Garden by Amy Myers

A Small Sunny Garden. Welcome to the small, sunny garden! It was born into a bare patch of desert dirt back in autumn of 2014. It spills off the edges of our patio and reclaims a bit of the surrounding desert for habitation: for us, for the hummingbirds and bees and butterflies and lizards and toads and, must I admit, rabbits! Here is a look at the setting and the creation of this little desert garden. The garden resides just on (or beyond, according to many locals! The region has long been home to a num...

Spruce Pine Cottage: Old Garden Roses and Dad
http://sprucepinecottage.blogspot.com/2015/07/old-garden-roses-and-dad.html
Day Trips and Cool Places. Saturday, July 18, 2015. Old Garden Roses and Dad. Probably the closest I’ve ever felt to my dad was in the late ‘90s when he became interested in old garden roses. I was living in Atlanta at the time, trying to get my first yard going, and suddenly Dad was offering me these wonderful roses he’d rooted himself. Some had delightful fragrances. Others had bunchy, fluffy flowers like Persian kitten faces. All of them were charming. Part of our ritual was to enthuse about the roses...

A Small, Sunny Garden. A small garden in the English style, set in the wilds of the northern Sonora Desert. Bibliography and Inspirational Material. Saturday, February 28, 2015. End of Month View: the Dry Corner in February. From the garden side. And looking in from the yard. It is meant to be home to some of the most adamantly desert natives I am growing - things that should not have much supplemental water at all. This where the acacia ( Acacia salicina. Is planted (I do love the colour of the bark).

A Small, Sunny Garden. A small garden in the English style, set in the wilds of the northern Sonora Desert. Bibliography and Inspirational Material. Monday, March 30, 2015. Monday Vase: Flowers, Sun, and Water. There was no arranging to speak of, as the wind upset any attempt to configure the blooms, generally driving them into a garland effect around one side of the dish, this way. I enjoyed the stark colour contrast between orange and blue. Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Warm climate flower bulbs. The hybr...

Garden On Fourth Street: Mostly Summer, With A Dash Of Fall
http://gardenonfourthstreet.blogspot.com/2016/10/mostly-summer-with-dash-of-fall.html
Garden On Fourth Street. Central Florida Garden Blog. October 31, 2016. Mostly Summer, With A Dash Of Fall. There's a period of time, quite early in the morning, when I sense fall in the air. All too soon, the temperatures ascend to the mid 80's and fall is forgotten. Summer blooms are still numerous in my gardens, like this Pagoda Plant with a lovely visitor. This Clematis had been cut down a few weeks ago and has returned to flower once more. Tibouchinas in the shade garden. Out front in full sun.

Southwest Florida Gardener: A Pretty Mess
http://southwestfloridagardener.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-pretty-mess.html
Welcome to my subtropical zone 10 garden! Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night. (Rainer Maria Rilke). Saturday, June 27, 2015. Our yard backs up to this huge wildlife preserve that goes for miles down into the everglades. It's very active and I adore all the animal and bird friends that come out of it to visit the garden. Crotons surround the bottom bringing balance to the tall plantings. But if y...
