Growing A Garden In Davis: April 2013

http://www.growingagardenindavis.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Growing A Garden In Davis. Blogs and Bloggers I Read. Monday, April 29, 2013. The Time of Surprises. This time of year things change so quickly in the garden it can be difficult to keep up. This volunteer poppy was not open at 6:00 this morning but the next time I looked, just before 9:30, it was fully opened. The surprise was that it was a fringed poppy! I had these two years ago but none returned last year. You can bet I will be saving these seeds and being careful with them. Monday, April 15, 2013.

Growing A Garden In Davis: October 2013

http://www.growingagardenindavis.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Growing A Garden In Davis. Blogs and Bloggers I Read. Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Passiflora caerulea is a vine native to South America that serves as a host plant for Gulf Fritillaries. My vine is about 4 years old and has grown quite large, winding through nearby privets and wisteria. It is supposedly semi-evergreen here but I have never had it lose leaves due to frost, possibly due to the protective properties of the privet. My vine is crawling, and has been for months, with gulf fritillary caterpillars.

Growing A Garden In Davis. Blogs and Bloggers I Read. Monday, February 25, 2013. When a Thing is Wick. It has a life about it. The garden is at that point where signs of the approaching end of winter are everywhere. Signs like chives and hyacinthoides hispanica (spanish bluebells) growing at an almost visible rate, fruit tree flower buds showing color as they swell, rose leaves bursting out along the canes of the climbers. Tender leaves at the base of the agastache,. Friday, February 15, 2013. Narcissus ...

Growing A Garden In Davis. Blogs and Bloggers I Read. Monday, December 31, 2012. Predicting the 2013 Garden in Davis. As 2012 nears its end I considered looking back at the year in the garden. I imagine that if I were to run through my Google reader I would find many similar posts today. So instead I am going to give you a preview of what happened in the 2013 garden. Here goes. January 2013 saw the last of the day lilies and hollyhocks bloom as well as the first of the narcissus. Strange but true! Time w...

Growing A Garden In Davis: Color And Exuberance-Buffa10 Style

http://www.growingagardenindavis.com/2010/07/color-and-exuberance-buffa10-style.html

Growing A Garden In Davis. Blogs and Bloggers I Read. Saturday, July 10, 2010. Color And Exuberance-Buffa10 Style. The rain softened the look of many of the gardens and tempered the heat of Thursday. This California girl has lost her childhood ability to deal with humid heat. Thank you Buffalo for turning the heat down a bit! This little sweet fairy wasn't fazed by the rain and is just one example of the garden art by which I've been inspired. But what I find myself drawn to is the white painted brick&#4...

All year I dream of the days of May when the sun is warm, the sky is blue, the grass is green, and the garden is all new again! Search May Dreams Gardens. Monday, August 31, 2015. The Balcony Garden: Snow on the antirrhinums

http://balcony-garden.blogspot.com/2008/01/snow-on-antirrhinums.html

Saturday, January 05, 2008. Snow on the antirrhinums. We have had snow this week. Not a lot, and it sooned turned back to rain, but for a few hours the world turned white. It wasn't unexpected. The first two weeks of January are usually the coldest of the year here, although tradition has it that it should be the last three days of the month which have the bitterest weather. They even have a name -. I giorni della merla. And though covered with fleece, the marigolds. Posted by Sue Swift. It was hot, hot,...

The Balcony Garden: We've overwintered well...

http://balcony-garden.blogspot.com/2011/02/weve-overwintered-well.html

Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Over the past couple of weeks, the work of uncovering everything on the balcony and cleaning up has gone on. And I've been happily surprised how well everything has overwintered. I've lost one spider plant, and that's all. When I attacked the back balcony, the first job was to sort out the chrysanthemums. I cut back all the dead flowers and shoots from last year. And there were the new shoots coming through. After last year's chrysanthemum experiment. E know you drowned our ...

The Balcony Garden: April 2011

http://balcony-garden.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 17, 2011. The daisies recovered, despite also falling prey to a nasty attack of powdery mildew. I suspect that some of the spring blooms came and went rather quicker than they might otherwise have done, though. A pity, but the heat has pushed on some of the seedlings. The aubergines are now through, and the tomatoes are begging to be transplanted. Well, those in the first container were all yellow. Posted by Sue Swift. Sunday, April 10, 2011. Oh, so that's what they were. Suggested "Those o...
