Tuesday, November 9, 2010. No Matter where i serve my guests . It seems they like my kitchen best.". A little plaque that's been on the family kitchen wall since i was a kid and it's my topic for today. The kitchen - - Kitchen 'Room' vs Open Plan. I want a kitchen which is more old school style. I connect many a fond memory to it as a child growing up. I hate seeing my dishwasher from the lounge room and fridge from the dining. appliances are terrible unattractive. Our family home was early 1900's so the...

Nostalgia and Now: Shades Of Autumn
http://nostalgiaandnow.blogspot.com/2013/05/shades-of-autumn.html
Thursday, May 23, 2013. Even though it’s still meant to be Autumn, it has been cold here in Brisbane. With the underneath of the house enclosed now, I had visions of warmth and cosiness on the top floor. No such luck. I bought this last week and am most enamoured with it. I was gazing at it for the longest time last night trying to work it out. The men’s posture is tall and proud, dressed in white with a summer glow about them. Head high and kind of jovial looking. L lived in Honkers for years and years ...

Nostalgia and Now: April 2013
http://nostalgiaandnow.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 22, 2013. When I saw these two at a garage sale on Saturday I just had to have. Aren't they just the most adorable little dust collectors? I don't have a whatnot stand, 'A' would pass out if he came home and we did. He already thinks we live in an old people's home. Thursday, April 18, 2013. Lighting Duo's and storm clouds. These enormous lights are utterly fabulous. But I have nowhere to hang. This is one half of a pair. Nice heavy marble. The woman I purchased these from has had t...A few...

Nostalgia and Now: Crystal Head Vodka
http://nostalgiaandnow.blogspot.com/2012/04/crystal-head-vodka.html
Friday, April 13, 2012. On Wednesday night a package wrapped in newspaper sat on the kitchen bench with a card and bunch of flowers next to it. It was from B – our 5-month old staffy to say thank you. Isn’t he thoughtful? This is what was underneath the newspaper. A bottle of Crystal Head Vodka. Yay. I’d hoped to pick some up when in the States and then forget when leaving NY (and my bags were bursting at the seams). Now Australia stock it! April 13, 2012 at 4:43 PM. April 13, 2012 at 4:48 PM. Im serious...

Restoring the Old Girl: Milton Moon
http://restoringtheoldgirl.blogspot.com/2014/04/milton-moon.html
The revival of a Queenslander.and everything else. Wednesday, April 16, 2014. I may not have made much progress with this blog lately, but elsewhere, I'm doing ok. My husband (I'm not even going to pretend I had anything to do with it) has finished the main room downstairs and now it's up to me to do the finishing bits; furniture, rug, sideboard, mirror. After a few minutes we laid our peter pointers on a wee square of colour called Milton Moon and walked out with 10 litres of it. It was my birthday rece...

The revival of a Queenslander.and everything else. Monday, February 23, 2015. Flight of the Hummingbird. I've been busy. I know, we've all been busy. However, last August, after putting all fears and doubts aside, I finally opened my own shop. It's called Hummingbird The Shop and it's in The Gap Village, at The Gap, Brisbane. Like it's namesake, Hummingbird is small but mighty! We stock Jadewood earrings. Tiff Manuell bags and jewellery. A range of Moroccan made belts and bags.delicious. 2 plus 3 makes 5!

The revival of a Queenslander.and everything else. Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Concrete Flamingos and Beach Umbrellas. I don't think it's any secret that I love a good fossick around an op shop. It's practically a legitimate hobby these days. With all that mass produced land fill coming out of China, where else are we going to find well-made unique pieces? I find it soothing, interesting, and it can be tres rewarding too. A concrete planter shaped like a swan. I have been looking at lights, ceiling roses, an...

The revival of a Queenslander.and everything else. Monday, April 8, 2013. Lily Pulitzer died yesterday. She was 81. Lily was a wealthy American who lived on the East Coast and became famous in the 1950s for her outrageously colourful frocks. After her old school friend Jackie Kennedy was photographed in one they went beserko. You can read more about Lily. Anyway, whatever your motivation or inspiration, thanks Lily. I love this photo of Lily with her two daughers. Excuse me. The shoes! Is Don. Is Good.

The revival of a Queenslander.and everything else. Tuesday, May 28, 2013. While I enjoy keeping a record of our house renovations, I think it would be remiss of me to edit the process, and break it down into cheerful chapters, like the musical interlude in an American rom-com. Can't you see it? If you are currently shopping the market, or just about to embark on your own renovation for the first time, I feel it my duty to give you some insight into the rather less glamorous flipside of renovating. It...
