Herald Watch: The Herald's evolving ethical standards
http://heraldwatch.blogspot.com/2006/09/heralds-evolving-ethical-standards.html
Monday, September 11, 2006. The Herald's evolving ethical standards. Friday's Herald featured an article. Corral consulted experts in journalistic ethics who explain why working for a government agency is a taboo for journalists. Journalism ethics experts called the payments a fundamental conflict of interest. Such violations undermine the credibility of reporters to objectively cover key issues affecting U.S. policy toward Cuba, they said. Setting aside my personal feelings about whether there was truly...
Herald Watch: Time: Herald is an endangered species
http://heraldwatch.blogspot.com/2009/03/time-herald-is-endangered-species.html
Wednesday, March 11, 2009. Time: Herald is an endangered species. From Time Magazine's list of The 10 Most Endangered Newspapers in America. Yes, the Herald will finally come the conclusion that any outside observer would have made a long time ago. That their business lies in the "news" part of newspaper, not the "paper" part. Getting rid of the dead tree version will allow the Herald to focus on its core business which is providing news content to readers and advertising opportunities to clients. I with...
Herald Watch: What's this all about?
http://heraldwatch.blogspot.com/2006/09/whats-this-all-about.html
Saturday, September 09, 2006. What's this all about? A free media is an integral part of a true democracy. It serves a purpose, acting as a watchdog on behalf of the citizenry. As a result media institutions can become very powerful in their own right because they influence opinion and can shape policy. So who watches the watchdog? This unhealthy dynamic exists in my hometown, although technically The Miami Herald isn't the only paper in the market. We actually have 4 daily newspapers in the area but...
Herald Watch: It's official, Herald is a mouthpiece for castro
http://heraldwatch.blogspot.com/2009/03/its-official-herald-is-mouthpiece-for.html
Friday, March 27, 2009. It's official, Herald is a mouthpiece for castro. Yesterday Humberto Fontova from Babalu blog posted an interesting item about the Herald's web site. It's an article there from ACN. ACN is one of Cuba's many official "news" outlets. That is to say that it's controlled by the government (and communist party) and serves only to put out official regime propaganda. It's interesting that the article is being hosted in a directory that seems reserved for Associated Press items:. Surgeon...

Fish or Cut Bait: A Miami Marlins Fan Blog: The Sports Fan Base of South Florida, Part 1
http://floridafishfan.blogspot.com/2007/03/sports-fan-base-of-south-florida-part-1.html
Wednesday, March 28, 2007. The Sports Fan Base of South Florida, Part 1. First in a series. In the past some have said that south Florida simply can’t support a Major League franchise. Some have debated whether a new ballpark for the Marlins should be in Miami-Dade or Broward. Some have said that Hispanics don’t support the team the way MLB had hoped they would. This series of posts is an exploration into these issues. Miami-Dade County: 1,820,000. Broward County: 1,343,500. Palm Beach County: 1,002,800.

Fish or Cut Bait: A Miami Marlins Fan Blog: Judge Cohen Punts...
http://floridafishfan.blogspot.com/2008/07/judge-cohen-punts.html
Wednesday, July 23, 2008. And Jorge Costales thinks that's a good thing. I think what the judge did was weak. She passed the buck. Her job is to rule based on current law as she understands it, not to wait for guidance from the Supreme Court to do it for her. What precedent does that. There is a time-sensitive nature to this case and now it's in limbo indefinitely for what Jorge rightly points out could be nothing more than political considerations for the judge herself. Friday, April 13, 2012. His team stinks. He apologized for making bone headed statements in praise of fidel castro, when will he apologize for the fact the team is 2-5? Maybe during spring training instead of being outrageous to journalists in an effort to live up to well-cultivated image, he should have been preparing his team for the upcoming season. Alabama Politics from The Wetumpka Herald ”. January 31, 2011. Rain, sleet or snow. Do we care anymore, or do they? Herald Watch
Friday, March 27, 2009. That was then, this is now. On September 8, 2006 a Miami Herald reporter named Oscar Corral wrote an article. About several south Florida journalists that were moonlighting at Radio Martí and TV Martí. Two US. government sponsored information outlets that target Cuba like the Voice of America. The Herald justified the firings by claiming that such moonlighting violated journalistic ethics. An excerpt from the Corral article:. The episode was embarrassing. The point is that the Her...
