All Things Hmong-American: January 2011

http://hmongamerican.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

A blog about what it means to be part of the Hmong and American cultures. What do you identify yourself as? Friday, January 28, 2011. I came across this video of a Hmong woman making ncuav. I feel like I want to video tape my mom making these things so it won't be lost on me. Of course, I can have her teach me now, but I also want something that will allow me to always rely on her to still teach me these things, even years from now. Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Hmong Families and the "Boy Requirement".

All Things Hmong-American: Polygamist Marriages in the Hmong Culture

http://hmongamerican.blogspot.com/2011/08/polygamist-marriages-in-hmong-culture.html

A blog about what it means to be part of the Hmong and American cultures. What do you identify yourself as? Sunday, August 14, 2011. Polygamist Marriages in the Hmong Culture. So why do they choose to be in that kind of marriage? Chances are not as good, from what I've seen of the polygamist lifestyle. All I'm saying is that the potential for happiness down the road exists much more for a woman who does not participate in a polygamist marriage versus one who does. Many men will justify their polygamist m...

A blog about what it means to be part of the Hmong and American cultures. What do you identify yourself as? Tuesday, February 8, 2011. I will never understand arguments over religion. Even now, we're still exploring our options, because apparently, having no religion is impossible and we cannot continue on in such a way. so says everyone we know. I guess I’m willing to expand my options more so than most people. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Read my other blog:. The Hmong in me.

All Things Hmong-American: Finding My Way Back to the Hmong Culture

A blog about what it means to be part of the Hmong and American cultures. What do you identify yourself as? Friday, December 30, 2011. Finding My Way Back to the Hmong Culture. Slowly, but I think surely, I am finding my way back to the Hmong culture. I have always been here, always in the background somewhere between the world of the Hmong and the American. Here. But yet somehow still lost in between both worlds. I want to enjoy the Hmong New Year celebrations. I want to speak more Hmong to my kids.

Real Life Musings: That good, ol' "back to school" feeling...

http://reallifemusings.blogspot.com/2011/08/that-good-ol-back-to-school-feeling.html

Tuesday, August 30, 2011. That good, ol' "back to school" feeling. I've been out of the physical classroom as a teacher for two years and I miss the feeling of back to school. The excitement and anticipation of students coming back. The burst of new ideas for lessons and activities. The arranging and re-arranging of desks, tables, and chairs, and trying to make the most of classroom space. The creation of bulletin boards. Getting school supplies and books stored and ready for use. Are you in college?

Sunday, November 24, 2013. Cultural Tidbits About Japan. While on vacation in Japan back in June, my husband and I observed some interesting cultural tidbits learned through observation and plenty of trial and error! Anyway, while in Japan I started jotting down in my iPhone Notes some of these cultural tidbits and differences about the Japanese culture. When paying for items at a store, always put the money in the little tray by the cash register. Never hand the money directly to the cashier as it's...

Well, I'm finally able to say that I'm slowly changing. I've been saying no to new contracts from the colleges I adjunct for. In fact, I recently finished the last of the courses for those colleges and am currently teaching for only one- the college I work for full-time. In other words, I only have one job right now. I can do it. Confe...

Tuesday, September 17, 2013. Tough Mudder 2013 and Getting Fit. I recently took part in a Tough Mudder. Event, which consisted of almost 12 miles of running and 20 obstacles. I didn't think I could do it, but guess what? I'm now at 110lbs (increase in muscle mass) and the 17% body fat I was aiming for. So what was Tough Mudder like? It was a great experience and a lot of fun! It's really more about teamwork and enjoying the experience than it is about competition. Incline and decline monkey bars. Overall...
