The New Walker: September 2011
http://thenewwalkerblog.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 26, 2011. Weeks to Go: 6. Money raised: $15 498.00! Woohoo for my first ever 21km run, my very own half marathon! Witness below photgraphic evidence of the route taken in yesterday's longest ever long run. And the BEST bit was the excellent behaviour of my knee. Gold stars all round! Along But the encouragement worked and stopped me spitting the proverbial dummy. And, most importantly, kept me running and pushing through when it didn't feel easy. Posted by Kate Offer. Weeks to go: 7.

The New Walker: Hitting the Bonk
http://thenewwalkerblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/hitting-bonk.html
Sunday, September 18, 2011. Weeks to go: 7. Money raised: $15 398.00! And then as mysteriously as it arrived, the slump disappeared. My energy levels returned and my marathon mojo was back. I saw some people running along Mounts Bay Road and all of a sudden got a Pang. As in 'Ooooh, I wish I was out there too' rather than 'Sigh, I better do another one of those'. So being out there on the long run today was great but it was pretty wild and stormy and my Assistant Coach and I got quite wet. Even $20 can m...

The New Walker: June 2011

Wednesday, June 29, 2011. The Bus Of Shame. On Monday I met with the lovely Aditi of Inspired Adventures. And fellow Perth marathoner Holly 'I Ain't Riding No Bus of Shame' Ord (more on how she got that pithy nickname later). Aditi was over from Sydney to meet with us and have a chat about how it was all going. It was an opportunity once again to think about the last six months and just how this whole crazy marathon thing started. How did it start? My shins seem to have healed up ok but it certainly knoc...

Tuesday, December 7, 2010. The One Where I Wonder if I Have Done Something Really Stupid. Hello and welcome to my blog, 'The New Walker'. I'd like to thank the fabulous Caroline for both the blog's name and the photographs you see here as well as 'Friends' for allowing me to shamelessly rip off their opening credits in my post titles. As I mention in my profile, I have committed to running . no,. So, thank you for visiting and reading my first blog post! Posted by Kate Offer. Tuesday, December 07, 2010.

The New Walker: July 2011
http://thenewwalkerblog.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 27, 2011. It's French for Motivation. Fortunately, I am feeling much better now and even managed a 5km run yesterday, my first run of the week. The knee did start to niggle a bit at the end so I have been ice-packing it at regular intervals all day. Hopefully that and a day of rest will get it right for the rest of the scheduled runs. Posted by Kate Offer. Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Wednesday, July 20, 2011. The Beginning Is the End is The Beginning. Oh hoorah I can run again! And time is ...

The New Walker: November 2011
http://thenewwalkerblog.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 13, 2011. Let's Hear It For New York. Before I lose it completely (the memory, that is, not my mind. Although the latter can never be ruled out), I thought I would use the waiting time to record some of my favourite things about The Wonderful Marathon Day That Was. First and foremost, finishing. Obviously. I really wasn't sure I was going to be able to. But I did! Fortunately, my WVBFF Jane and I were in the same starting corral so we could take turns saying 'What the #*&! I made the cla...

The New Walker: October 2011
http://thenewwalkerblog.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, October 29, 2011. Money raised: $17 353.70! See I did end up in caps after all). But . But now, as I write, these plans are in doubt. Qantas, our national airline and the airline taking us charity runners to the marathon, has upped the ante on its long-running dispute with its discontented workforce and cancelled all flights indefinitely. Who knows what will happen from here? BUT, it's not over until the weight-challenged gender-neutral homosapien sings and in the meantime, I will continue to h...

Friday, January 28, 2011. The One Where Lance Armstrong Says 'Congratulations' and I Get a Short-Term Goal. I thought he sounded genuinely pleased for me. As an aside, Lance has completed the New York marathon twice. He recorded times of. In both and reportedly said that the marathon was the hardest physical thing he had ever done. This from the guy who rides up mountains in France for fun. I am in So.Much.Trouble.). I completed Week 3 of the Couch Potato to 5K app. Hoorah! Posted by Kate Offer. I used t...

The New Walker: March 2011

Monday, March 28, 2011. Not Drowning, Training. I have been feeling a touch despondent about my lack of progress lately. There's been a lot of, well, let's just call it. Going on and, in terms of training, it's been two steps forward and one step back. I thought I would be a lean, strong, running powerhouse by now and that is not quite the case. And the 10km Around the Bridges run is on April 10th - less than two weeks away. Aargh! Speaking of carbo-loading, this guy took it to somewhat of an extreme.

The New Walker: April 2011

Thursday, April 28, 2011. The Legend of Rosie Ruiz (and a Solemn Vow). So now it's time once again to take a solemn vow: I hereby and forthwith pledge and confirm before you, dear blog readers (all 35 of you) that from now until November I will NOT TAKE ON ANY OTHER PROJECTS no matter how fascinating or exciting they are. No taking up harpsichord, learning Icelandic or sewing a replica of Notre Dame cathedral, no 'why don't I just restore my gran's antique bureau myself? Posted by Kate Offer. First thing...
