http://manateegirls.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Adventures of manatee and her fellow travellers. Saturday, October 25, 2014. On one of our many walks in Cairns we came across April the sea dog. Ruby and April were very happy to meet their doppelganger and did their little dog dance while working out seniority! April smiling for the camera. Doing a little dance. And coming to an agreement- don't smell my butt! Ruby checking out the deck. Notorious is an amazing work of art and April is a special sea dog! Links to this post. We managed to average 6kts.

adventures of manatee & her fellow travellers: Remembering Cooktown
http://manateegirls.blogspot.com/2015/06/remembering-cooktown.html
Adventures of manatee and her fellow travellers. Tuesday, June 30, 2015. On Thursday 9th October we dragged up our anchor at 1000 hrs to head to Cooktown. We trolled and caught no fish, what a surprise! Sunset over Endeavour River. The banks of the Endeavour River are parkland and the main street almost follows the river. Of course there are lots of monuments to Cook. A short stroll along from where the Endeavour careened for repairs is a spot named reconciliation rocks. It was on these rocks that a grou...

adventures of manatee & her fellow travellers: Into the blue
http://manateegirls.blogspot.com/2015/08/into-blue.html
Adventures of manatee and her fellow travellers. Friday, August 7, 2015. We set out for Howick Island, 30nm from Lizard, in SE winds 20-25kts. Furler trouble, so we sailed with 3 reefs in the main and the storm jib. The seas were horrendous and we experienced gusts to 30kts. Happy to anchor at Howick Island after 6 hours where we then took turns at anchor watch overnight. 65279;. Passing Watsons Island named after Mary Watson. The days were very windy and at night we started to roll at anchor. K...

Adventures of manatee and her fellow travellers. Friday, August 28, 2015. So far into the blue we reach 'out of the blue'. After a couple of days relaxing in Lloyd Bay - fishing, crabbing and reading we decided it was time to head further into the blue. Glassy calm at Lloyd Bay. On the 11th August we woke to a beautiful day so pulled the anchor and headed the 20nm to Portland Roads. The wind was softly blowing below 10kts 30 degrees off the bow so we motored. Beautiful scenery on the way. The water was v...

adventures of manatee & her fellow travellers: March 2014
http://manateegirls.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Adventures of manatee and her fellow travellers. Sunday, March 9, 2014. We were well rested when we headed off (again). The winds were variable, seas 0.7 with a swell less than 1.5. Good stuff, but not enough breeze for Manatee to sail. We were abeam the infamous Abbot Point mid morning. Coal loading jetty at Abbot Point. Despite this massive coal loader (hardly utilised at this stage) we saw abundant marine life - whales, mahi mahi, a turtle and a shark. Links to this post. Old resort on Stone Island.

adventures of manatee & her fellow travellers: Port Douglas = work & road trips!
http://manateegirls.blogspot.com/2015/07/port-douglas-work-road-trips.html
Adventures of manatee and her fellow travellers. Saturday, July 18, 2015. Port Douglas = work and road trips! Ruby ready to go! Our first trip was back to Townsville to pick up the van and scooter, so we hired a "hippy van" and made our way slowly down the coast. Our first overnighter was a Cairns beach where I had camped back in the 70's. After loading the scooter we headed back via the inland route to get in as much sightseeing on the land as possible. We also had a few trips to the Daintree area.

http://manateegirls.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Adventures of manatee and her fellow travellers. Thursday, August 8, 2013. Is that a monkey chattering in my ear? We had a few slight problems so needed to head directly for Mackay-the first being our new generator (a Honda purchased from Mackay)-which refused to start! We both were awake at 0230 with Manatee on a lee shore. Winds were 30kts (N) and the swell was 2-3M. We departed the Island at 0300 into rough seas, unable to raise the sails due to conditions. We were abeam Digby Island by 10...Thirsty S...

http://manateegirls.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Adventures of manatee and her fellow travellers. Monday, August 25, 2014. After 10 months tied up at Breakwater Marina Townsville feeding our rapacious kitty, we departed for Magnetic Island on 17th August. Hooray! Our time in Townsville consisted of work, work and more work. We had the occasional road trip to sightsee when our days off coincided. Which was chosen as the preferred location for a new government settlement. Cherished Jack's last road trip. Cairns waterfront by night. Cairns was a little di...

adventures of manatee & her fellow travellers: November 2014
http://manateegirls.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Adventures of manatee and her fellow travellers. Friday, November 28, 2014. From Low to Hope. The weather forecast looked good, so on the 3rd of October we pulled up Manatee's anchor and headed out to the Low Isles. The seas were supposed to be 1m but of course they were 2m and on our beam. Luckily the trip was only 90 minutes, we were all very relieved to pick up a mooring and relax. There is also a historic, heritage listed lighthouse on Low which was built in 1878. The next morning we were off early f...
