A all the things I thought were romantic when I was eleven: postage stamps, the thick glossy paper of airplane tickets, sad songs. B this was before I had a series of foreign penpals who couldn’t keep their epistolary promises and before my father’s monthly visits turned into brief notes in his clean, capitalized print on sheets torn from a pad of bank stationary. This was before the stream of letters from the best friends and cousins I’d left the year before began to taper. D I was sixteen. no excuse.

Our friends, the Giffords, made a trip down from CT to spend the weekend with us and check out DC. The weather was beautiful. April 12, 2014. Sliding down the Lincoln.
