Heads and Tales: March 2011
http://heidicolthup.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, 31 March 2011. It's almost the end of term. I've marked all the assignments and caught up on all the paperwork (I think). I've even finished proof reading a brilliant novella by James D Quinton. Which I very much enjoyed. Now it's time for me to get back to my own writing. I ought to feel excited, enthused and full of anticipation. Instead I feel trepidation, anxiety and a little bit of fear. Six weeks later take out what you wrote. Read it with a critical eye. Begin to redraft and deve...Had b...

Insulin's Involved: August 2010
http://insulinsinvolved.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
The trials and tribulations of Type 1 Diabetes. Tuesday, 24 August 2010. It's now been just over 2 weeks since I got my insulin pump. It's been.challenging, exciting and also, I have to say, pretty tiring! To test whether my overnight basal rates are correct I have been getting up at midnight and 3.00 am to test my blood sugars - hence being so tired at the moment. My levels have still been fairly high in the mornings so that means I probably need more insulin overnight. Then I managed to replace the inf...

All Pumped Up: Diabetes Explained
http://allpumpedup.blogspot.com/p/diabetes-explained.html
There are literally a million ways to explain diabetes. For some UNKNOWN reason, my pancreas essentially ‘died’, and stopped producing insulin. We need insulin to break down the sugar in our bodies. Or else our blood we be like jam, as mine was when I was diagnosed way back in 2005. Yeah, cheers for that diabetes). So to stop this from happening, I inject artificial insulin into my body every time I eat something and before bed, to keep me going through the night. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

All Pumped Up: Pumps on a Plane
http://allpumpedup.blogspot.com/2011/03/pumps-on-plane.html
Tuesday, 29 March 2011. Pumps on a Plane. No, this isn't a blog about some sort of trashy sequel to Snakes on a Plane. I am back after a weekend in Prague celebrating my 21st birthday. I have had my insulin pump for over 3 weeks now and this was our first adventure abroad together. To say the least, I was a little apprehensive about the whole thing. I had a few worries and played out horrific ‘ what if. 8217; scenes in my head in the run up to my trip. I'm not taking my shoes off.you might steal them!

All Pumped Up: Pumps, Planes and Prague
http://allpumpedup.blogspot.com/2011/03/pumps-planes-and-prague.html
Tuesday, 22 March 2011. Pumps, Planes and Prague. I need a break. And so does my pump. Life is whizzing past me at a ridiculous rate and a need a couple of days away with my family. I am moving to London on my own to start life as a grown-up in less than 2 weeks. As I am leaving soon, and it is officially my 21. Birthday this Saturday, my parents agreed to take me away to Prague for a long weekend after weeks of nagging. Over-reaction, but you know what airport security is like these days and I don’...

All Pumped Up: Trouble in paradise?
http://allpumpedup.blogspot.com/2011/03/trouble-in-paradise.html
Monday, 14 March 2011. So me and my pump are not currently on speaking terms. I'm 'in a mood', and giving it the silent treatment, despite it being our ‘one week anniversary’. It has given me so much grief and stress this weekend I think my hair is going grey. I'll take you back to Friday when it all went horribly wrong. My blood sugars had been great all day, and I was getting ready for my 2nd night out since the pump with some friends (I must have been feeling particularly sociable this week). Despite ...

All Pumped Up: Divabetic Explained
http://allpumpedup.blogspot.com/p/divabetic-explained_23.html
If you have clicked on this page, you are clearly wondering what a 'divabetic' is. At times I admit, I can be a bit of a diva. And at all times, I am a diabetic. Throw the two together and there you have it, a 'divabetic'. You should be aware that not all diabetics are divas. This is one of my many endearing personality traits (I joke) and I was a diva long before I was a diabetic. The way I see it is diabetes is a part of my life, but it isn’t who I am. I am a girly girl. This ' go get it. There was an ...

All Pumped Up: March 2011
http://allpumpedup.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, 31 March 2011. Carrying on from my previous blog. I had some slight worries about taking my new pump away with me abroad. On true form my blood sugars were extremely high just before I was about to leave the house to make my way to the airport early Thursday morning. I see a pattern here. High blood sugars aka hyperglycaemia. I decided to take matters into my own hands and adjust the amount of basal insulin (basal = throughout the day and night, regardless of food intake) I was getting during t...
