Thursday, July 06, 2006. Internet based savings accounts are again ratcheting up the interest rates to attract customers. Here are a few examples in no particular order:. Currently at 4.75%. Currently advertising 4.35%. As I have said in the past, Kiplinger's. Have longer lists, if you can find them. The key is that these rates are high enough that they are above inflation. Wednesday, March 29, 2006. Is Glass a Liquid? During dinner with friends recently I mentioned a fallacy I was told in high school by one of my science teachers. "If you can see through a substance it must be a liquid." This was used to justify the statement that glass was a liquid, which I did believe for many years. And a page created to show that "Glass is a Liquid" is an Urban Legend. Posted by PB @ 5:57 PM. IntTech - Interesting Technology. Doing your taxes on AWS. Notes on Small Business Accounting.

Pbrewer: December 2005

Friday, December 30, 2005. I wrote an little about the interest rate war. Well it has now broken the 4% barrier. Looking at the latest Money Magazine. The top five Bank Money-Market Rates range from 4.1% to 4.5%. Given that I like banks I have heard of before, and for most people a small minimum is preferable I'd pick E-Trade Bank from their list (4.1% with $100 minimum). Posted by PB @ 10:45 AM. Monday, December 26, 2005. Appears to be 44.5%. Posted by PB @ 9:07 PM. Wednesday, December 21, 2005. New les...

Monday, August 29, 2005. So here I am starting a blog. Strange I have worked in he web space since it started in the mid 1990's, and have wanted a blog since before the word "blog" existed. Yet this is my first posting to my first blog. You could say I sometimes procrastinate a little too much. Better late than never. Posted by PB @ 10:57 PM. IntTech - Interesting Technology. Friday, October 28, 2005. I recently heard that insured damage from Hurricane Wilma could be $6 to $9 Billion. Combined with losses from Rita and Katrina (beware of women whose names end in "a" or at least hurricanes named after them) it will clearly be another record year for hurricane losses. Posted by PB @ 11:15 AM. Thursday, October 27, 2005. A year (3.37 X 365 x 0.095), or $9.74. A month to run that fridge. A larger but more modern fridge would probably use a similar amount of power. It is an intere...

Friday, September 30, 2005. I went out last night to buy new gym shorts. I had been wearing casual shorts to the gym and wanted something more comfortable on an exercise bike. Lucky for me the things I wanted seemed to be out of season and on sale, so I got 2 pairs of shorts and a Linen "summer" shirt all for less than $18, at the local Target. Posted by PB @ 8:37 AM. Makes you think . Wednesday, August 31, 2005. Now short of running out to buy the last remaining Honda Civic Hybrids on the lot you might be wondering what you can do to save gas in a shortage. Here are a few ideas. At Edmunds that can help. A few other ideas:. Don't start the engine until you are ready to move. Letting the engine run while you are fiddling with things just wastes fuel. Cut off your engine when waiting at Rail Road crossings or other places where you will be idle for more than a minute.

Friday, December 01, 2006. It has been a while since I have heard small venue live music. It is nice. Tonight I went to hear Kyler England. It has been well over a year since I have caught her when she was passing through town. Large venue concerts tend to have horrible sound quality. Of course some small venue's aren't ideal either, but there is no wall of speakers. You can see the artist without opera glasses, and the sound has an immediacy and intimacy that is hard to find at bigger shows.
