longwalkdownlyndale: Why I'm (Sort Of) On The Hillary Train
http://longwalkdownlyndale.blogspot.com/2015/08/why-im-sort-of-on-hillary-train.html
Friday, August 14, 2015. Why I'm (Sort Of) On The Hillary Train. Which is the distillation of a whole lot of research done by a branch of the so called "Americanist" tradition of political science) which basically argues that nominations are chosen not by voters and caucus goers, but by the parties themselves and all their actors aligning around a largely consensus nominee. How does this work? Not really, then you basically had a party deadlocked between Hillary and Obama (no consensus nominee! Which bri...

longwalkdownlyndale: Netanyahu's Folly
http://longwalkdownlyndale.blogspot.com/2015/01/netanyahus-folly.html
Saturday, January 31, 2015. The New York Times had a nice round-up piece. Describing the recent massive break down in American-Israeli relations. Simply put American relations with Israel are probably at there lowest point since, well ever, largely due to Netanyahu's stance of having nothing but utter contempt for Barack Obama and trying to make an end run around the president by giving a speech to congress. Calling for war with Iran and himself being relected. She never forgets a slight, real or imagine...

longwalkdownlyndale: Gawker and Why Americans Hate the Media
http://longwalkdownlyndale.blogspot.com/2015/07/gawker-and-why-americans-hate-media.html
Sunday, July 26, 2015. Gawker and Why Americans Hate the Media. Back In 1996 Jim Fallows wrote one of the best analysis or the media I've ever read, and it was appropriately titled "Why Americans Hate The Media.". The media of course doesn't like talking about this, and since they control the debate it's rarely mentioned. But it's an empirical fact that the American public take a pretty dismal view of journalists as a profession. Simply put journalists are one of the most distrusted professions. Who wrot...

Thursday, June 25, 2015. Some Thoughts On The Trans-Pacific Partnership. So it looks like the Trans-Pacific Partnership is going to be a thing, even though it seemed to be on the ropes just last week. But to be blunt I think a number of groups came out looking pretty bad during this whole debate. Here’s my run down. Remember when Obama’s presidency was doomed because many of the members of his party in Congress disagreed with him over a trade treaty? This had never happened before of course. Or something...

longwalkdownlyndale: The New New New New Republic
http://longwalkdownlyndale.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-new-new-new-new-republic.html
Wednesday, August 12, 2015. The New New New New Republic. Pyonter had a nice run down. About the new face of the (new) New Republic and some of changes that have gone down since last December when most of employees quit/were laid off after it was bought out by Facebook zillionare Chris Hughes. The fallout from the whole affair showed the political media at it's worst in my opinion. TNR loyalists like Jonathan Chait were morally outraged. And cited Buzzfeed as a better model for the future. So boo to him!

longwalkdownlyndale: December 2014
http://longwalkdownlyndale.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, December 18, 2014. Putin's Blues Prove Obama Is Great At Foreign Policy. So the Russian economy is melting down like various Soviet era nuclear reactors. Meanwhile we get to hear from Republican politicians and much of the foreign policy pundit community that President Obama is "bad" at foreign policy. It's like reading Cosmopolitan Magazine's latest piece on how to get boys to like you, at the end of the day, it's all about me. Which brings me back to the theme of Russian economic tribulations...

Thursday, July 17, 2014. On Being Done With Writing On "Culture". The other day WaPo's Alyssa Rosenberg wrote a nice essay. About " how we talk about politics is influencing how we talk about culture." It was about some of her own observations about how she thinks the world of culture writing has changed since she started. Is ridiculous hyperbole and should be ignored. A classic example occurred a few weeks ago when the New Republic published an article detailing how Lana Del Rey's new album. Here I was ...
