Taking Self Pity to a Professional Level. Wednesday, August 04, 2010. Another Day, Another Interview. Originally uploaded by mygothlaundry. It is not really a good idea to dye your hair a complete new color with a brand new product the night before a job interview. Particularly when the color your hair turns is purple. I woke up this morning and went to the mirror and LO! It only muted the hair a little bit. I think you oghta write for the New Yorker and wake that mag up. So, when will you know? I doubt ...

Dirty old men and greedy young women | Meteuphoric

On the Anthropic Trilemma. Signaling for a cause →. Dirty old men and greedy young women. May 21, 2011. When people see relationships where the man is much older than the woman, they often suspect that both partners are there for superficial and unseemly benefits; money for the woman and a sexual object for the man. If a young man was with the same young woman, why does it reflect less badly on his motives? If an older woman marries an older man, why is it less plausible that she is just after his money?

The Church of Rationality. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My Blog of Quotes. Lost in the Funhouse. Labels Used at Least Ten Times. More eviden...

The Church of Rationality. Willkommen im Schwitzkasten der Halbbildung! Playlists by Year: A Tape Side's Worth of 1954. Never mind the best-of-the-decade-type lists. Starting today, we'll go year by year. Each playlist will be as long as one standard tape's side. That is, no longer than 45 minutes. The first is 1954, for the simple reason that it is the first I could get a good 45 minutes together; it is also the year that rock'n'roll broke. And here's the first list:. The Church of Rationality. Willkommen im Schwitzkasten der Halbbildung! Genetics, Human Capital, and the Thomas Theorem. But that's a normative point. Empirically, how much people plan to invest in their kids and how many kids they hence choose to have, should be influenced not by the truth itself, but by what people believe. If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences. So thats called the Thomas Theorem? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My Blog of Quotes. Lost in the Funhouse.

The Church of Rationality: Does Altruism Exist? Against the "Warm Glow" Argument

The Church of Rationality. Willkommen im Schwitzkasten der Halbbildung! Against the "Warm Glow" Argument. Models of human decision-making are just that: models, not the real thing. Another way to put this is to say that models are wrong. As the famous saying goes, all models are wrong, but some are useful. This leads to the question, useful for what? That is, just because a model is useful in one domain, doesn't mean it's useful in another domain. Bryan Caplan is not one of those people. He points out.
