Jess Watje

Thursday, August 20, 2009. It is almost surreal to think about the experience I had in Nigeria, still. Happy to be home. Grateful, just grateful for what we have in our communities and society. Compelled to be an active citizen in this world. The last couple of weeks have been hectic; a trip to Vegas for the WOLF @ Best Buy conference and starting a new job with the Environmental Affairs team at Best Buy. No deep reflections tonight but I'm finally adding pictures from the trip. Friday, July 31, 2009.

Jess Watje: October 2008

http://www.jesswatje.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 30, 2008. After a morning of reviewing a lot of detailed human resource reports, my eyes were getting buggy and it was all starting to sound like mumbo-jumbo. I took a walk over to the Capitol and the Botanic Gardens for a mental break and different stimulus. It was a beautiful day - not a cloud in the sky! Check out this place - a liquor store. A deli. I was feeling brave so I picked up lunch. To be clear, it was just a sandwich - no liquor. :). Wednesday, October 29, 2008. I coded tha...

Friday, July 31, 2009. My small part in microfinance. I am sitting in the Lagos International airport on my way home, trying to process all that I have just experienced. Feeling grateful for the opportunity, grateful for the great communities that I call home, and responsible for my contribution to the world. This week was exhilarating and exhausting! Saturday, July 25, 2009. The heart of microfinance. Wednesday, July 22, 2009. Time is flying by! Everyday is something new a new adventure, a new piece of ...

Jess Watje: September 2008

http://www.jesswatje.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Ready for Day 3! These past two days have been a whirlwind - in a good way! The metro ride on Monday morning went fine, until I had to find my way from Union Station to the Grameen Foundation (GF) office. So, Peg (the Director for the Human Capital Center at GF) was gracious enough to walk down to meet me and escort me to the office. Yes, I make lovely first impressions! Against the mission :). From the employees is obvious and contagious. Of programs for GF. The importance o...

Jess Watje: First night in Benin City

http://www.jesswatje.blogspot.com/2009/07/first-night-in-benin-city.html

Sunday, July 19, 2009. First night in Benin City. Started the day with breakfast in Lagos found it strange that option on the buffet was a hot dog in a croissant. A bagel dog! I passed on that and had an omelet instead; my preferred source of morning protein. On our way to the Lagos domestic airport, we noticed people wearing beautiful church-going attire. The domestic airport was an experience. The terminal was small and chaotic and we received handwritten boarding passes! July 21, 2009 at 8:36 AM.

Above we went to a pumpkin farm and below right before carving pumpkins! They love each other even though Elsa sasses Moo around a bit. Moo dug right in to the pumpkin goo but when I asked Elsa to put her hand in she said, "um No". She doesn't really like to get too dirty :). Sunday, October 17, 2010. Anyway I feel ...

Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Good morning. We have had a lot of new things going on since my last post, sorry for the long absence. I'll just highlight some of the last 15 days in no particular order. Memorial Day Weekend was a lot of fun. We played golf around the rain showers and BBQ'd also around the rain showers. Overall...I agr...

Sunday, June 26, 2011. New Member To The Tauer/Ritchie Family. On the Ward side, my half brother Eric and his wife welcomed their 2nd daughter on Tuesday and they named her Merrit Grace so we had 2 unique names in the family this week. She weighed over 8 lbs. Besides this, our week was just status quo. The weather was kind of lousy, rainy most of the week and most of the day Saturday. Nicole is playing in a golf tournament tomorrow for work with her boss Jonathan so I'm sure she'll impress him around the...
