Systemic integration is a way of understanding and evolving the connections between systems which have previously been understood as singular elements. design + affect: Systems Integration
http://designandaffect.blogspot.com/2008/05/systems-integration.html
Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Thesis Statement: Systems Integration. Architecture in its current state is isolated because it does not recognize itself as an adaptive system within a larger constantly evolving network. Subtractive, analytical processes serve to isolate the subject from the very factors which define them, while systemic processes derive order from cooperative interaction with dynamic systems. I do not know what I may appear to the world; but to myself I seem to have been only like a...

design + affect: 3/4 Jury
http://designandaffect.blogspot.com/2008/04/34-jury.html
For final jury I need to be more rigorous about the architectural representation of the project. I think the idea of breaking up the vertical presentation format with analytiques or moments of deeper exploration was a good suggestion to bring real intensity to the somewhat fantastical subject matter. This type of analysis will lead to a better understanding of the true nature of social interaction in the spaces and their relationships to one another, keeping in mind fluidity, displacement and also the ex...

Metro Environmental Blog: August 2008
http://nyenviro.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Lee sent this along to me, and I thought I'd share. It's famed evolutionary ecologist Richard Dawkins reading the hate mail he gets from Creationists. This clip's audio straddles the line between Safe for Work and Not Safe for Work, so I'd turn the speakers down a bit before viewing. It blows my mind that people could not realize evolution to be the truth. If the Catholic Church can reconcile evolution with faith why can't these people? Links to this post. How to Get There.

Metro Environmental Blog: Why So Hot, So Soon?
http://nyenviro.blogspot.com/2010/04/why-so-hot-so-soon.html
Thursday, April 8, 2010. Why So Hot, So Soon? Newark and Hartford have exceeded 90 and unofficial reports from Orange County suggested temperatures of 94! But why and how? Well it has to do with trees, or in this case a lack there of. Trees do two things that tend to reduce surface temperatures, first they reflect radiation and shade the surface and secondly they are a driver in evapo-transpiration. Let me explain. Another interesting effect to note on the above temperature map is the influence of the co...

design + affect: The Highline Shell
http://designandaffect.blogspot.com/2007/12/highline-shell.html
Sea level rise is an event which cannot be met symptomatically. In the past, engineers have built dikes and levees to hold back water from civilizations only to prolong the inevitable interaction between water and architecture. Hurricane Katrina is one of many instances that illustrate the dangerous consequences of controlling rather than cooperating with nature. High fashion boutiques and night clubs are now flooded; only the higher residential levels remain inhabited. Fire exits turned into main en...

Metro Environmental Blog: Five Burning Questions facing the Yankees

Friday, February 19, 2010. Five Burning Questions facing the Yankees. I thought that this. Was a great idea, so I thought I'd try it out. Five Burning Questions facing the Yankees. 1 Can Alex Rodriquez stay healthy? I spent the offseason working with a gym teacher to strengthen my hip," he said. "But after a few days of that, my elbow started to bother me, so now I'm just taking it easy and seeing what happens.". 2 Can Derek Jeter remain productive? 3 Can Brett Gardiner rebound from a tough 2009? When Br...

Monday, March 16, 2009. Solar power at home? Good news for those of you living in Palm Desert, CA your city government has a great program that allows home owners to get financing to install solar panels. Bad news is that the program is so popular that if you’re looking to get in, it’s too late. The program works like this:. Home owner applies for a loan from the city. The city approves the loan, allowing the home owner to have solar panels installed. The program is not without detractors. But public fin...
