John Woburn's shoes

Thursday, January 31, 2008. Panoramic view of the neighborhood and east side of the river from the new aerial tram. Wednesday, January 30, 2008. Following them along the curved concrete wall, I approach the underpass. A soft rumble crescendos to a thunderous roar, punctuated by the shriek of worn brakes or the groan of a downshifting truck. Paying no heed, I hesitantly step forward. The door banged shut behind me, but did nothing to muffle the acrid words my mother directed my way. Things had only be...

John Woburn's shoes: juxtaposition

http://johnwoburn.blogspot.com/2008/01/solace.html

Wednesday, January 30, 2008. The tram. That’s something that wasn’t always there. The wet leaves squish underfoot as I gingerly step down the sidewalk, the sharp stones from the cracked and pitted surface digging into my feet. The sky is neatly cut in two, the swaying cables a hundred feet. As if through their own conceit they must mask the forest, river and hills beyond. Looking down at the crumbling cement, I laugh. John Woburn's shoes: Paths

http://johnwoburn.blogspot.com/2008/01/paths.html

Wednesday, January 30, 2008. I was late. I was always late. Saturday, the day of freedom – and I am determined to make the most of it. My friend Eric lived just a few blocks away, on the other side of the highway. Front Avenue, that barren no man’s land of windy concrete ribbon. Menacing me with its surge of traffic disappearing into the blackness of the tunnel. London Centre for Int'l Storytelling. Brown and White Ones. Morning walk with Tea. 17 years. It’s been awhile.

John Woburn's shoes: maps and resources

http://johnwoburn.blogspot.com/2008/01/maps-and-resources.html

Monday, January 14, 2008. Some maps of the hood. The South Portland Neighborhood Association website. Has an introductory walkthrough for those of you unwilling to wait for all of my journal entries. The Oregon Historical Society. Is another excellent source of information, for those sleuths who are willing to part with the requisite eight clams' entrance fee. I'll see what kind of information I can drag out from yesteryear one of these days. London Centre for Int'l Storytelling. Brown and White Ones.

Fathom Identity: Good Old George (Intro)

http://fathomidentity.blogspot.com/2008/02/good-old-george-intro_04.html

An Exploration of the Identity of a Narratorium. Monday, February 4, 2008. Good Old George (Intro). Blog back – Chinatown – more than you ever expected. When I received, in the mail, the directions and the magic circle, I decided that I needed to put my shoes on, and retrace the steps and see what story I could find. We came back to the car and pondered for a few minutes, the wheel of chapters of George’s odyssey through his shoes. And suspected, as I should have known, we all have stories that...I was a...

http://fathomidentity.blogspot.com/2008/02/american-idol-of-narratoriums.html

An Exploration of the Identity of a Narratorium. Wednesday, February 20, 2008. What is a narratorium? There are almost a hundred professional storytellers in the. What if you caught some of your friends or family members telling one of their friends your story? Eventually the story would get around, but probably not to that many people, and eventually it would die because not enough people knew the story to keep it alive. You could have kept the story alive if you went around telling strangers like a...

Fathom Identity: George's Childhood Memories (Chapter 1)

http://fathomidentity.blogspot.com/2008/02/georges-childhood-memories-chapter-1.html

An Exploration of the Identity of a Narratorium. Monday, February 4, 2008. George's Childhood Memories (Chapter 1). When I got to Chinatown, around noon, I realized how hungry I got, so I decided to head to a great lunch place called Ford’s. My wife and I would stop there for lunch every weekend, and we knew the lady that worked there, Beth. I reached Ford’s and opened the door. Beth was there taking an order for someone. 8220;The usual today? 8221; She asked while I was looking up at the menu board.

RED VELVET: Gabriel Park

Sunday, January 27, 2008. I like it here. Sometimes it’s so cold in the winter it’s hard to walk around here. But during the summer this park is gorgeous. I never wanted to feel my age. So I always try to climb the hills. I like coming here to watch the sun set. It takes me out of myself. These people in front of the setting sun. I want them all to know that.
