Saturday, April 26, 2014. Last week, Steph and I spent a handful of days in Ann Arbor, where the temperatures were in the mid-70s and the woods were colorful with blooming wildflowers. Here and there, deer bones from years past poked through sun-parched grass and fallen beech leaves. The first two photographs depict the same deer skeleton, seen at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens. Saturday, May 3, 2014. While beavers are the best-known semiaquatic rodent in North America, there's another that's more widespread: the muskrat. The toes on their hind feet are lined with thick, bristly fur which acts like webbing. Their appearance reminded me a lot of the feet of grebes and coots. Saturday, October 19, 2013. From The Collection: This Year's Buck. Back in mid-March of this year, I found the body of a dead buck in Ann Arbor, at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens. I cut off the head, took it back to Marquette, and left it outside. For the next month, it went untouched. Until finally in late April the weather was warm enough for the flies. And boy, did they ever arrive! By May, despite the cool temperatures, the buck's head was coming along quite well, playing host to a swarm of maggots.

En Förhammad Trollbackas Dagboksanteckningar. Saft på Spansk körvel med en skvätt rabarberdricka. Sedan gjorde jag kokt rabarberdricka (1kg rabarber, 2l vatten, 2 dl socker och fyra nejlikor) och den använde jag för att spetsa saften jag hade gjort på körveln. Man toppar bara med en liten skvätt så att rabarbern inte tar över i smak. Resultatet är den godaste saft jag någonsin druckit. En riktig gudadryck. Som Jenka tuggummi. Mums!
