Move

The move began in February 2000. The house was cut into pieces, the first piece jacked up and the trailer backed under. The first piece was lowered onto the trailer and towed out. This pieces is 10m wide, and 15m long. The first piece arrives at Kaitoke and is moved into the correct position. Next it will be jacked up, the truck driven out, holes for piles will be drilled into the ground, the piles will be inserted and set in concrete, and the house lowered and attached.

Bedroom 1 Bedroom 2. April 2001: Renovating the kids bedrooms just inside the front door. The inside of one of the bedrooms after the pinex and rimu panelling had been removed. I'm going to strip the windows, but otherwise leave them unchanged. The wall now has gib screwed to it. Ready to be plastered. December 2001: The kid's bedrooms are complete. June 2006: And now they have carpet too.

Land

The Land at Kaitoke. These are some pictures of the land at Kaitoke before the house arrived. The view from the front gate. We own up to the top of the hill (500m). The stream runs across the property, between the garage and the bush, somewhat lower than the flat land. The view from the house site towards the gate. State Highway 2 passes between the pine trees along the boundary and the hills opposite. We've had snow settle on the ground in 2003 and 2004.

When we bought the land, the flat half was split into 3 paddocks. There were no services connected, infact the only ones available were power and phone at the roadside. July 1999: We had a driveway put in to the garage site. October 1999: We had a new power pole and transformer installed on the side of the road and ran the power and phone underground from the front of the property to the garage. When the house arrives we'll run it underground over to there.
