Learn Tibetan (via Chinese): learn_tibetan

http://learn-tibetan.livejournal.com/15556.html

Kelly in taiwan (. Learn Tibetan (via Chinese). I found an excellent resource for learning basic Tibetan but unfortunately the site is in Chinese (the course was developed by a Taiwanese university as far as I know). However, for those who have a working knowledge of Mandarin, the course covers much of the basics of Tibetan grammar and Tibetan script and makes use of Flash animations and audio in its 'lessons'. If anyone is interested in checking it out, it can be found here. Post a new comment.

Rosetta Stone?: polyglots

How are the Rosetta Stone programs? Do they include any kind of audio programs to listen to while driving? I'm interested in learning French, Japanese, and Esperanto. (Of course I'm out of luck with that last one, as far as RS is concerned.). Post a new comment. We will log you in after post. We will log you in after post. We will log you in after post. Kelly in taiwan (. Tashi delek to everyone! I've been watching this community for many months now and have been fascinated by Tibetan culture for years so I've recently given some thought to learning a little of the language. I bought Learning Practical Tibetan. A week ago and find it a brilliant resource for learning some of the basics (it's hard to find good books for learning Tibetan). I'd also like to say thanks for all the brilliant mini-lessons posted at this community! Post a new comment. We will ...

A Few Questions...: polyglots

http://polyglots.livejournal.com/2930.html

Kelly in taiwan (. This community's been a little dead lately so I thought I'd try and spark a bit of discussion. 1) How do you 'choose' the languages you want to study? Do you base your choices on cultural reasons, academic interest or purely practical reasons (eg. furthering career prospects)? 2) What are your opinions on studying more than one language at a time? 3) What techniques do you feel are best for language learning? Attending classes, self-study from books/websites, immersion programmes?

Abroad in Italy...

A quick (and hopefully painless) update! Sep 25th, 2008 at 9:15 PM. Tomorrow we leave for Pompeii, Sorento, and Capri, so before an eventful weekend begins, let me take care of a fairly eventful week here in Montepulciano. But, I'm happy to announce, this week my homesickness has faded, partly due to a few things I've got to be happy about (one of which is being invited to participate in a group show at Young Blood Gallery in December :D). Anyhow, onto the week! Needless to say, this was a very busy week...

An American in Taichung. Friday, August 03, 2007. A Day in Taipei. Taiwan's National Palace Museum. We arrived back in Taipei late at night, and took a bus and then some taxis to A-ma's apartment. Dragging our luggage behind us, silence settled as we fought against our exhaustion. Imagine our shock when we arrived at the apartment with the clock hands nearing 2:30am, and who comes to open the door for us but A-ma herself! Kelly, In Kagoshima

Kelly, In Kagoshima. Tuesday, June 22, 2010. Rice, Rivers and Rafts. One of the things I love in Japan almost as much as I love the food is the countryside. Japanese countryside can have it all - incredible hiking, volcanoes, quaint cafes with tables set under trees (ha, ok, that's not a standard thing, but something we have stumbled upon), hot springs, wide rivers to swim in, cute grannies hauling heavy loads of vegetables, local produce stands, pachinko. Parlors (the pseudo gambling known as pachinko.
