I'm officially not a teacher - Kiwi in Korea
http://kiwiinkorea.com/2016/07/15/im-officially-not-a-teacher
I’m officially not a teacher. By Kiwi in Korea. Middot; July 15, 2016. I’m officially not a teacher anymore. Well, I’m officially unemployed, but that means I’m technically not a teacher now right? This makes me ponder the question of whether you can claim to be any profession you want when you’re unemployed. Can I introduce myself as a writer at dinner parties because I write, even though it’s not my job? Could I say I’m a records clerk because I was one once, even though I haven’t been for years? I kno...
Gamcheon Culture Village: Parents Tour #2 - Kiwi in Korea
http://kiwiinkorea.com/2016/08/14/gamcheon-culture-village-busan
Gamcheon Culture Village: Parents Tour #2. By Kiwi in Korea. Middot; August 14, 2016. During the Korean War the community swelled in size as more than 4,000 refugees from other parts of Korea settled in Busan. After the armistice was signed, Busan’s population had increased by 40% and the city was faced with overcrowding and poverty. The local government reshuffled the population and offered relocation to the Gamcheon area for the Taegeukdo community, a religion that believes the taegeuk. Many cafes, esp...
Raccoon Cafe: Raccoonamatata Busan! - Kiwi in Korea
http://kiwiinkorea.com/2016/08/19/raccoon-cafe-busan-raccoonamatata
Raccoon Cafe: Raccoonamatata Busan! By Kiwi in Korea. Middot; August 19, 2016. While browsing one of the Busan expat pages on Facebook, by chance I saw someone mention there was a raccoon cafe here in Busan called Racoonamatata (라쿠나마타타), which in itself is adorable. As soon as I saw, I messaged my friend Nadine who I knew would be keen to go. I have taught him well. Located on the second floor of the building, there’s an unmissable sign that spans the width of the cafe front. Everything inside is ver...

Kicking off Christmas with Kpop – In the Korealm
https://inthekorealm.wordpress.com/2016/12/01/kicking-off-christmas-with-kpop
Middot; Korean Music. Middot; Language Learning. Kicking off Christmas with Kpop. December 1, 2016. This title is actually not very accurate as I’m one of those people that will start listening to Christmas music around late October or early November. But now that it’s actually December I can listen to it without feeling like I’m being overly Christmas-y unnecessarily early. Here are the lyrics if any of you want to read along:. 오늘은 뭔가 좀 다른 기분 Feeling 이젠 때가 된 것 같은 느낌 Love you. 하얀 거리마다 행복해 보이는 연인들. You ar...

I’m not exactly sure how to categorize these words, but there’s a certain type of words in Korean which don’t really seem to be as common in other languages I’ve studied. 끈적끈적하다 – to be sticky. 딱딱하다 – to be hard or stiff. 똥똥하다 (or 통통하다) – to be chubby or plump. From couch to 5k and then…. July 25, 2015. Today is parkrun day, but instead of doing my usual marshalling duties, I decided to run instead… well, run/walk at least. It has been a while since I’ve done a 5K, so I decided to use a 3:1 run/walk ratio in the knowledge that I’d probably have to adjust it at some point during the run. It was going to be slow, but I didn’t mind and figured that I’d be happy if I could complete the course in under 35 minutes. How’s your running going? Did you do parkrun today?
Parkrun Day | The Blog Runner

From couch to 5k and then…. July 18, 2015. Today is Saturday, which for me means volunteering at the new Hove Prom parkrun. As I won’t be running 5K again for a while, I’ve signed up for marshalling duty for the next few weeks, which is always good fun. After last week’s inaugural run on Hove Promenade, today was a bit quieter with 164 runners compared to last week’s 294. As for my own running, well, that’s another story. Rule #1 – Listen to your body. Or that’s what I keep reminding myself anyway. Sorry...

From couch to 5k and then…. June 12, 2015. I know, it’s not a word, but ‘bleurgh’ describes exactly everything about my run this evening. I was supposed to do 3K (not much, I know) but I only managed 2, then walked a bit and then ran a bit to make 2.5. Not good. Not good at all. But I did try my best, I promise. As soon as I stopped running though, I felt terrible and decided to sit down for a bit. This is not something I normally do straight after running as I like to walk to cool down, but today I ...

Here’s the low down on my trip. Enjoy. Saturday 22nd October: Home Time. On the one hand, the diving is so good and the people so friendly that I’m inclined to think he was quite right. On the other hand, my girlfriend is waiting at home for me and there’s no more work for me to do here so there’s really no great reason for me to stay. It seems I’ll have to get my head checked either way. Next week, on October 27. I’m going home. Myself and the local gansters. We dug a hole. 65279;. One activity in whi...

Mike's Adventures in Malaysia. Adventures and thoughts of a Kiwi living in Malaysia. KTM put up signs at their stations before Hari Raya saying “Maaf Zahir dan Batin” (I ask forgiveness for any physical and emotional wrongdoings). They have a lot of forgiveness to ask for, especially after what happened today (today in Hindu time). I went back down to the platform and waited. Another annoucement said that the train would be there in 15 minutes (I think it was at Bandar Tasik Selatan at that point)...
