Reviewing Southwestern Cuisine in New England. Monday, February 27, 2012. The Howling Wolf Misses the Mark. Having moved to the North Shore, I've warily begun trying out local Mexican restaurants. The Howling Wolf Taqueria. In Salem looked like a decent bet. The owners, after all, had lived in Albuquerque for six years and ought to know what New Mexican cuisine should taste like. Three geek moms cook from scratch. Laquo; What to do with Unsalted (or Stale) Bread. Pantry Dinner — Rarebit. November Chicken Soup, Perfected. November 19, 2014 by akitchenwitch. I got it right! I cooked that until it was nicely browned and deglazed the pan again with chicken stock and cooked it down until it was practically a paste. Frankly, I wanted to spoon it onto cheese toast and eat it like that. But I was making soup, so I resisted. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. You are com...

Three geek moms cook from scratch. Laquo; Shutdown Suppers — Upscale Beans on Toast. November Chicken Soup, Perfected. What to do with Unsalted (or Stale) Bread. November 19, 2014 by akitchenwitch. I made bread to go with soup the other day and forgot to add salt to the dough. Then I mixed up a royale — dairy and eggs. You can use almost any combination, but I like a cup of whole milk, two eggs, and an extra yolk for richness. I knew the base of the dinner, the bread, was flat and gross, so I added more ...

Three geek moms cook from scratch. Laquo; School lunch. First Snack of School. More on school lunches from a less sane pov. August 30, 2011 by akitchenwitch. So, you know how some people, when they are nervous, especially about something they can’t affect, take all their anxiety and squish it into something they can. That’s me. And the Child starts Kindergarten on Tuesday and I’ve spent the summer obsessing about school lunches. Hearthwife is much more sane than I am and has merely thought. And, of cours...

Three geek moms cook from scratch. Laquo; Variety at school. What to do with Unsalted (or Stale) Bread. Shutdown Suppers — Upscale Beans on Toast. October 9, 2013 by akitchenwitch. I haven’t done any food blogging in a while, but the Shutdown is in day 8 or 9 or something and I suspect there are people who are looking at their bank accounts and starting to get worried. Not just about mortgages or school payments, but about the act of getting a decent meal on the table tonight. 1 bundle swiss chard. Or yo...

Southwest by Northeast: June 2015
http://sw-by-ne.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Reviewing Southwestern Cuisine in New England. Tuesday, June 9, 2015. As I was driving through Medford last week, I spotted a food truck headed in the opposite direction with the magical words "Stuffed Sopapillas" emblazoned on its side. My heart nearly stopped! Could it be true? Real sopapillas in Boston. Today I Googled them and found Papi's Stuffed Sopapillas. Then I made the mistake of looking at the menu. Corned beef? Okay, I get that. Sopapillas. Where are the refried beans, chorizo, carnitas?

Reviewing Southwestern Cuisine in New England. Wednesday, November 17, 2010. Olecito in Inman Square, Cambridge. By wonderful serendipity, my husband and I were in Inman Square last weekend in need of a quick bite to eat, and we stopped in at Olecito ( http:/ olecito.net/. The fast food joint across the street from its parent restaurant, Olé Mexican Grill. To my considerable astonishment, the food there was superb and wonderfully authentic, so much so that I went back yesterday for more. Other Blogs by J...

Monday, March 11, 2013. Repost: Gluten-free Dining with Children. Somehow, this was posted yesterday, March 10th, to another of my blogs, Know Your Food Boston. Which must have been confusing for followers of that blog. I'm reposting it here so that today's earlier post actually makes sense. Wow It's been over a year since I last posted. How time flies! And how things change. Eating out is a whole different ball game. Here's a brief roundup of the restaurants we've tried thus far:. It turns out that brea...
