New Cool Thang (defunct version). It may or may not actually be cool, but it is a mess o' Mormon Musings and whatnot by yer ol' pal, GFJ. Friday, February 25, 2005. All is Well, All is Well! And "We'll make the air with music ring, shout praises to our God and King" because of it. Thank you for being among our saviors. Thank you for mourning with us as we mourned and comforting us as we stood in need of comfort. Miracles happen. I’m glad I am a Mormon boy. Posted by Geoff J at 2/25/2005 07:07:00 PM.

New Cool Thang (defunct version): Twisting God's arm?
http://gfj-thang.blogspot.com/2005/03/twisting-gods-arm.html
New Cool Thang (defunct version). It may or may not actually be cool, but it is a mess o' Mormon Musings and whatnot by yer ol' pal, GFJ. Wednesday, March 02, 2005. In Sunday school this week I used the term "twisting God's arm" as a way of describing the process of petitioning the Lord with enough fervency and faith (and sometimes through enough people) to get a mighty miracle. It was a tongue-in-cheek reference and I qualified this term by mentioning God wants. After the events of the last week. In con...

A Motley Vision: Publishing: Choice in LDS Books
http://motleyvision.blogspot.com/2006/06/publishing-choice-in-lds-books.html
AMV is now at www.motleyvision.org. Publishing: Choice in LDS Books. Those who have read my previous posts (yes, those from last Fall, when I last gave myself enough time to write here) know that I think the market for LDS books is crippled. It is only able to supply a relatively narrow range of books to a relatively narrow audience, and as a result either ignores or turns-off a large portion, perhaps even the majority, of those who might purchase LDS books. That the store has decided not to carry? Many ...

A Motley Vision: Mormon Lit: A Believing People
http://motleyvision.blogspot.com/2006/05/mormon-lit-believing-people.html
AMV is now at www.motleyvision.org. Mormon Lit: A Believing People. Which inspired my self-guided tour in the first place). Every ABP entry could probably give birth to many essays; this quick review does not aspire to comprehensiveness. But some things did stand out to me. For example:. Ed Geary’s essay Goodbye to Poplarhaven. Eliza R. Snow’s Hymns. Donald Marshall’s story The Week-end. Even so this is me aspiring to objectivity ABP’s earlier selections (say prior to the 1930s) generally depend too much...

Apples at the Chapel: January 2010
http://applechapel.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Apples at the Chapel. Thursday, January 28, 2010. Adventures in Sunday School: What would you do? As some of you might know I am back in my favorite calling teaching Sunday School, and I am teaching the best age group, the 16 to 18 year old teenagers. That said we had a great moment in class the other day. I was teaching Abraham 322-23 about how many were called before they were born. From there I wanted to transition to the thought that this was not a unique event in scripture and went to Jeremiah 1:5.

Apples at the Chapel: How far away is it?
http://applechapel.blogspot.com/2011/06/how-far-away-is-it.html
Apples at the Chapel. Wednesday, June 15, 2011. How far away is it? I set off for my nightly walk using my cities trail system. My initial plan was to make it out the Nature Center. To touch the big rock and back for about 11 miles total. Unfortunately the day had been overcast and about a mile out the rain started; then lightning in the distance. Now I am all for walking in the rain, mainly due to an old Bob Kennedy. I think that makes me a professional walker, just with incredibly low wages. English Am...
