Vintage One: 20 years of Mtn Bike passion and counting.: July 2015

Thursday, July 30, 2015. You can learn a lot from a rabbit. I think, after all these years of doing it, that I do not know how to breathe correctly. Astonishing! This crept into my mind a while ago but just as quickly crept out again. Then last weekend I was in the middle of a long climb on the Warbird, a climb that was difficult and had me right below redline a good part of the time. And I became aware of the fact that I was breathing shallow and fast, mostly from the chest/rib cage area. When I decided...

Vintage One: 20 years of Mtn Bike passion and counting.: January 2014

Friday, January 17, 2014. Or trick-sey. Tricksy? I don't do tricks well. Now, stop that image in your mind right now. I am talking about bike tricks. You know…wheelies, bunny-hops, manuals, etc. I suck at them. I bet any 12 year old with a bike and a paper route (do they still have those? Can crush me in a wheelie contest. School is in session. Turning serious tricks may not be for me, but perhaps I can learn to flirt in the dirt a bit more. No street corners required. Thursday, January 16, 2014. Parts h...

Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Idaho Revisited: Rebecca's Private Idaho 2014. I was not going to do it, you know. Too far to drive. Costs money. Takes time. Takes training. Meh! But then Navy Mike said he was looking to do something semi-epic this year and did I have any plans? My time there was bittersweet in 2013. I also had to decide what bike to ride. Last year I reserved a Specialized Crux. I had the fitness to survive, I think, but not excel. Will keep a bottle at hand and I will alternate between Fluid...

Tuesday, March 3, 2015. You have seen them, I bet, and thought "Hmmmm…maybe that would be cool? Fatbikes - those rolling Stay Puft Marshmallow bikes that are all over the snowy parts of North America and beyond. As well, desert dwellers seem to love them as they make sand and loose rock just a slight annoyance. But I was only curious, not smitten, and I had no immediate need, sooooo…. Why would that be for a typical trail or XC rider? So when an opportunity came my way to get on a Fatty for a while, I ju...

Mountainbula: Not bad for my first Elk Hunt
http://mountainbula.blogspot.com/2009/10/not-bad-for-my-first-elk-hunt.html
The High Times of RBM. Thursday, October 22, 2009. Not bad for my first Elk Hunt. Here are some photos of my first elk hunt near Taos, NM. I shot him at 210 yards, he fell about 20 feet from where he was hit. It took five trips to get the meat out in backpacks, I walked nearly 50 miles with some help to complete the hunt. The High Times of RBM. Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Memorial Day Weekend Mechanics. They said 3-4 hours on this here box, ummm yea, perhpas on a brand new truck. This might be part of the problem. And no it's not the cheep beer. One side done. They mount onto the rear only. Nice placement of the air pressure gauges. The F-250 makes the Tacoma look like a car. Vroooooooooooom! In Between Spokes: Go east: Riding into Roztocze
http://woolbeard.blogspot.com/2015/06/go-east-riding-into-roztocze.html
Sunday, 28 June 2015. Go east: Riding into Roztocze. Things can go fast. One day we wake up in Slovenia with all our belongings stuffed in the car and just a handful of hours later we fall asleep in a different bed, in Poland. Unlike the skies our goals are clear. Head east and take as many hostages as we can. Having exchanged some e-mails with Pawel from BikePack. Waiting out the rains we leave on Sunday, late into the morning – almost touching noon. Looking at recent weather it’s a suns...There is no r...

Cranky Scott: Dickie Scramble Weekend
http://crankyscott.blogspot.com/2014/05/dickie-scramble-weekend.html
Friday, May 2, 2014. Last weekend we headed down to Elgin, MN for the Dickie Scramble. We did the ride last year and we thought that we would give it a go again this year. The ride also gave us a good excuse to get out and use or camper that we got last fall. So Friday after work we loaded up and headed out. This was our first trip with the camper so I was not sure how everything would go. The trip down was good with no issues, we were all set up and had dinner going by 8. The rest of the ride was pretty...
