Tuesday, Feb 3 2009. After our class discussion on whether or not to allow Wikipedia as a credible source in the classroom, I was sitting on the fence of indecision. After reading Dr. Crovitz’s article “ Wikipedia: Friend, Not Foe”. I have decided that I am a supporter of using Wikipedia in the classroom, with consideration of its shortcomings and taking precautions to avoid inaccurate information. 8221;, which also supports use of new technology in the classroom. Wednesday, Jan 21 2009. The first video, “ Understanding Web 2.0. 8221; was very dry. Although it had some good factual information on the background and definition of Web 2.0, the speaker was unenthusiastic, which made me unenthusiastic. I found the second video “ Web 2.0: The Machine is Us/ing Us. You can read the wiki pages about 4chan. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Wednesday, Mar 25 2009. 8220;These natives are no different than wild animals” opens the possibility for a very dim world view. Presuming that this metaphor is true insinuates that those who are not natives are superior. The characteristics that define a native may define any person as inferior, if they possess those characteristics. This world view has skewed history and what has been taught in school. The End of Education. Neil Postman mentions the “revisionist” history. Rican History Textbook Got Wrong.

Survey Monkey in the Classroom. Monday, Jan 19 2009. Using Survey Monkey was a new experience for me, creating a survey which may be found here. It was useful to have multiple question formats to experiment with and to have a tab for analyzing the responses. This tool could be used in a classroom, prior to instruction, to gage students’ weak areas. It could also be used in a Progressive manner by allowing them to guide their own instruction by voting for what they want to learn. Laquo; Previous Page.

Wednesday, Jan 21 2009. In brainstorming for the Media/Visual literacy project, I think about products that have been extensively marketed, for example the Nintendo Wii. One funny video which comes to mind is one I found on Fail Blog. In this video, a man playing his Nintendo Wii epically fails. There is a reason why they have a safety strap and a safety warning every time you turn on the console. If you are unfamiliar with the Wii system, you can read more about it on Wikipedia. He is such an idiot!
