EXPAT WEDDING: HOW (NOT) TO GET MARRIED IN KENYA

LIFE IN THE EXPAT LANE. Subscribe via RSS or Email. EXPAT WEDDING: HOW (NOT) TO GET MARRIED IN KENYA. August 14, 2010. Middot; 36 comments. After our bizarre, ten-minute wedding ceremony in Kenya. Was over, I wasn’t sure if my Peace Corps volunteer hero and I were really married or not. What I did know was that I had a 9-karat gold ring on my finger and that the equatorial African sun was hot enough to give me hallucinations. Let me tell you the story:. HERE COMES THE BRIDE. Fiona frowns at me. With ...

LIFE IN THE EXPAT LANE. Subscribe via RSS or Email. Twelve Ways Expats Have More Fun. August 1, 2016. Middot; 1 comment. Ways we expats have more fun, you ask? I know, there are many more, but do you want to read a list of a hundred? No, I didn’t think so. So here’s twelve:. You have fun watching your expat kids morph into foreigners. The middle one is my daughter number one taking part in a fashion show in Indonesia. Left is her German friend, right her Dutch friend. You may get a chance to visit the ho...

LIFE IN THE EXPAT LANE. Subscribe via RSS or Email. Expat Delight: Funky French Stuff. May 17, 2015. Middot; 5 comments. Dear reader, by now you must know I am a sucker for funky foreign stuff, and living in France, I have the fabulous opportunity to visit the twice-yearly antique market in a town not far from my village. (I wrote another blog post. About that market a couple of years ago.). Then again, who am I to judge? One should not judge the taste of others, so I will not. Look at these. The market ...

Wandering the World: April 2009

http://kmrsmr.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Welcome to my internet home away from home. Join me in my quest to find sanity and reason in a crazy world. Thursday, April 30, 2009. In honour of my mother, who is currently attending her monthly Knitting Night. Nope, whenever I visit my childhood home my mother and I hit our local yarn shop – Mary’s Yarns. 8211; and I pick up my needles and get to knitting. How’s that for random? Through my mother’s pattern books I found an adorable frog in Puddle Jumper. Ribbit, as I dubbed him, knitted up in less tha...

MollersDownUnder: R U OK?

http://mollersdownunder.blogspot.com/2012/09/r-u-ok.html

Visit my other blog - Through My Lens. Thursday, 13 September 2012. I should have known something bad was bound to happen. Earlier this week I got an email from the HR lady at work informing us of the R U OK? Campaign and encouraging us to join in on the 13th of September - “When last did you ask your colleague or friend, R U OK? 8221; Soon after, my one colleague asked me if I was ok, and I duly informed him that he can only ask me that question on the 13th. At first I tried to use gluteus maximus to pi...

Mindless Meanderings of a Middle-Aged Maniac: A Happy Place

http://kobico.blogspot.com/2013/03/a-happy-place.html

Mindless Meanderings of a Middle-Aged Maniac. There are a lot of day-off projects to do this year, but for now, it's nice to have this little spot for relaxing. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Im a short, semi-optimistic but fully cynical middle-aged, angry but happy, crazy mixed up kid from the bay area. Im so old I remember when my home town was in the 415, we collected records instead of MP3s, and school teachers didnt have to beg parents to make photocopies for them. View my complete profile.

Mindless Meanderings of a Middle-Aged Maniac: 2013-10

http://kobico.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Mindless Meanderings of a Middle-Aged Maniac. How did that happen? Clumsiness this evening as the middle aged office monkey exited the building and headed toward the stairs. As usual, she was futzing in her purse as she stepped down off the landing. Except this time, instead of her foot landing squarely on the step below, only the edge of her three inch heel made contact (darn vanity! And her foot slipped just as she transferred her weight to it. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Photos in ...

Mindless Meanderings of a Middle-Aged Maniac. One would think that the rambunctiously enthusiastic dog would be the reason I need to replace the screening on my back porch door at regular intervals, but no. The innocent-looking cat that spends most of the day sleeping and her claws are the culprit! Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Mindless Meanderings of a Middle-Aged Maniac. The Dog (and Cat) Days of Summer. Piglette enjoying the sunshine. Have not yet arrived here in the SF Bay area. Granted, given our latitude and proximity to the sea, temperatures rarely reach extremes, but we usually have an "Indian Summer" around late August/early September. This summer has seemed cooler than in the past. I wear sweaters and long sleeves more often, and heat-loving tomatoes don't seem to be flourishing as they once did. Links to this post.

Mindless Meanderings of a Middle-Aged Maniac: 2012-05

http://kobico.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Mindless Meanderings of a Middle-Aged Maniac. During the Vietnam era, my hometown adopted A Company, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, the Screaming Eagles. And, according to the free daily newsrag here, was the only town in the country to hold a parade for returning Vietnam vets in 1972. So today (yesterday, now), the town did a repeat performance for the original parade's 40th anniversary. Piglette and I walked around the park, looking at the booths, greeting...

Mindless Meanderings of a Middle-Aged Maniac. This passage of Jon Krakauer's made little, if any, impression on me when I originally read his chronicle of a young man's foray into the Alaska wilderness that resulted in his death. But when I happened upon it again as I was thumbing through a few weeks ago, it stayed with me. Hollyhock, June 2011. Note: photos in this entry were taken with my new camera, a Samsung HZ30W. My boyfriend gave it to me when I lost my trusty Canon PowerShot. A few weeks ...Im a ...

Mindless Meanderings of a Middle-Aged Maniac. It's Mother's Day here in the US, and instead of my own mother (who was a great gal and fantastic parent, by the way), my thoughts turn instead to another mom with whom I share DNA. Even today she underplays her achievements, saying that she barely passed her undergraduate program, or claiming that she is no longer capable of those things. But that person still exists, she's just changed her focus. If there is one thing I wish for my sister on this da...Im a ...

Una Argentina en Holanda. Lunes, 30 de enero de 2012. Miguel, el Terminator. To read this post in English, please go here. Fuera! El continuó con su mirada fija perdida; una mirada fría y distante, sin inmutarse siquiera ante mi abuso verbal.

Life in The Empire

Life in The Empire. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Living in the Empire. Henry Adams at San Michel. January 3, 2014. Adams reveres Aquinas for his lasting effect on the Church, in all its forms. He claims that while Descartes and Hume have faded away, Aquinas’ legacy has continued on like a cathedral. He further claims that the foundation of Aquinas’ art was based on a Norman, [and] not French foundation. Adams lauds Aquinas’ intellectual grasp of the Trinity, as well. To Adams, ...

Life in the Emptying Nest

Life in the Emptying Nest. Saturday, January 17, 2015. A change of caffeine. Fast forward to September 2014 when I decided to give up Diet Coke and start drinking water instead. It’s been great, and I never looked back. However, while we were making a trip right after Christmas to visit our three kids (over 2200 miles of driving), I started thinking about the caffeine of it all. But I wasn’t willing to go back to the mass quantities of Diet Coke. Friday, February 21, 2014. It's kind of weird because I ha...
