As It Was in 1958. Class Trip April 1958. Our Fourth Grade teachers were Mrs. Emily Sosh and Mrs. Nell Beasley. This was the first time we were introduced to Geography. We had a large globe in our classroom. Arithmetic now included long division. We wrote out our long division exercises in bound practice books which were turned in for grading. As It Was in 1958. Class Trip April 1958. Our First Grade teachers were Mrs. Myrtle Linton and Miss Ruth Moore. Mrs. Linton is shown on the left top row of the Kindergarten graduation photo. Unfortunately we do not have a photo of Miss Moore. She was a sister of Mrs. Emma Canon, a well known piano teacher in the community. Miss Moore later taught one of our third grade classes. But we were kept on track by Mrs. Geneva Helm, who had been our home room teacher since 7th Grade. Our core subjects that year were. English III (Mrs. Ruth Carpenter). Plane Geometry (Miss Ruth Mobley). U S History (Mrs. Helen Carpenter). We could also select one of the following as a junior elective course:. Typing I (Mrs. Geneva Helm). As It Was in 1958. Class Trip April 1958. Having graduated from 8th Grade in May 1953, we began our Freshman year in September 1954 at Russellville High School. We were mostly 13 or 14 years old. It seemed like a big step up for all of us. We looked up to the Seniors, Juniors, and even Sophomores, all veterans of RHS. Mrs. Geneva Helm (Miss Geneva) continued as our 9th grade home room teacher. For most of us the subjects that year were. English (Mrs. Eleanor Piper). Algebra I (Miss Ruth Mobley).

The Mud Game of 1957

The Mud Game, Nov 1957. As It Was in 1958. Class Trip April 1958. The Panthers vs. the Purples was an intense old rivalry that capped the 1957 season. Going into the game, the Panthers had won 5 and lost 5. This season would be decided by this game, in some ways the only game. Beating Bowling Green meant a winning season. We had moved from the old Elementary School building to the RHS Classroom Building across Seventh Street, and become junior high school students. Our home room teacher was Mrs. Geneva Helm (Miss Geneva). She stayed with us for the next five years through our high school graduation and we were fortunate to have her. English (Mrs. K. Lyle Stengell). Science (Mrs. Nancy Borchers). Geography (Mrs. Helen Carpenter).
