August 18, 2015. Paulina dug some potatoes for the stews we made tonight and I pulled out a few carrots. This is what they looked like. I am afraid that I took the largest ones, so we will have to let the rest grow a little longer before we pull any more. Potatoes and tomatoes we picked today. Sunflowers and corn from the angle of the dike. Roger wanted to be in the picture too. The vine garden in full bloom. August 16, 2015. Rain on the concrete. First sunflower in bloom. August 15, 2015. Early August heat – lucindagardens

https://lucindagardens.wordpress.com/2015/08/03/early-august-heat

August 3, 2015. August 3, 2015. As I mentioned on my lucindalines site just a few minutes ago, we were away from the garden for three days at the end of July, and the wind and the heat took advantage of our absence. The cucumbers that I picked this morning showed signs of no water stress. I grabbed the hose and ran it for nearly half an hour in the cucumbers, zucchini and the marigolds. Cucumbers in the background on the fence. The bed of carrots, beets and cabbage with yellow zucchini in the background.

August 14, 2015 – lucindagardens

Day: August 14, 2015. More pickin’ and some picklin’. August 14, 2015. It has been hot here, and not just hot, it has been humid. The breeze has been slightly absent also, which is both good and bad. When James went downtown at 3:30 it said 96 on the bank thermometer. Later in the day the radio said there was a heat index warning, so it was dangerous to be outside. The haul from today. So the pickled bean recipe which is based. On the one I got from my sister, Kathy goes something like this. Travel. ...

Paulina’s pictures of flowers. August 17, 2016. Since I was in the office all day, I didn’t get to the garden. It was also pretty hot, and I didn’t much feel like doing anything when I got home. So, for my post today, I will show off a few of the flowers. I am billing this as Paulina’s pictures, and the individual ones are, but the last one of the group is mine. Thanks Paulina for the pink pictures! My picture of sunflower with cosmos in the background. August 16, 2016. First tomatoes in the jars. James ...

Lifestyle: Connecting with Gardening – Retired and Smiling

https://retiredandsmiling.com/2015/07/23/lifestyle-connecting-with-gardening

Opinions about life from a happily retired teacher. Straight Talk from Pam. Lifestyle: Connecting with Gardening. July 23, 2015. By Pamela Barbee Marshall. Finding a passion (or maybe even some passions) is probably one of the hardest parts of retirement. Literally, I went from a teaching career of constant working and multi-tasking (and yes, contrary to what the general public believes, teachers do work over the summer) to a lifestyle of O.K., what should I do today? If you are truly looking for a relax...

Opinions about life from a happily retired teacher. Straight Talk from Pam. Traveling Highway 51 in the 1960’s. August 14, 2015. August 14, 2015. By Pamela Barbee Marshall. Once a year, as many black families living in the north did, we would make the annual trip down south. Often, as kids, we never really knew until the week before when mama and daddy would say,. Highway 51 back in the day. Illinois had to be the longest state to travel. Our journey’s end was Tennessee. The night before, we would make s...

Trellis on a post. July 20, 2015. Here is a trellis idea for those with limited area or space or access to a place to grow your climbing plants. I have a wonderful porch and patio area, but my house faces west with south spot to grow vines that like to climb. I realized that I have wonderful posts for something to climb, but no way to plant or for the vines to attach. Here is my solution. Morning Glories climbing lattice. Homemade sling bag →. July 2, 2015. I started another beanie as soon as the last one was finished, and now I am not sure if I should stop and take out four rows or just continue on and let it be what it is. Everyone that I do is different in some way, so I could easily just finish this out and do another with these same colors and make sure that the pattern works out right. I can’t decide. Beanie about half finished. Beanie with needle in rib. Trellis on a post →. Enter your comment here. Address never made public). My Tangle...

Day: August 15, 2015. Beanies, beanies, beanies. August 15, 2015. August 15, 2015. Main stash of beanies. Top of the recent orange beanie. Orange and striped beanie. Amazingly they seem to twist together at the seam. I think that I may have sewed it up not exactly on track at that top most white row, but it will just have to do. I really like how this variegated color seems to blend into the orange even though there is no actual orange in that yarn. Little beanie inside out to show seams. August 15, 2015.
