Adventures in Moshi

A baby shower and more updates. My friend adopted a baby last month, so of course we organized a baby shower! The collective we, because my roommate did most of the work). It was particularly special because the latest addition to our Moshi family, Thomas, was present for his shower - and was a most willing participant in the opening of presents and being passed around, to the delight of Lena and Alya - our budding pre-teen moms :). I knitted a hat for Thomas - because, even in Moshi, it can get cool!

Adventures in Moshi: November 2009

http://malavikaintanzania.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

A Fogarty Thanksgiving: Lake Naivasha, Kenya. Only in the middle of East Africa would I have plans for three. Stop #1: Lake Naivasha, Kenya. Named Twiga House, or Giraffe House in Swahili), but I was a bit skeptical and decided to go mainly to see my favorite Fogarty East Africa friends. The 8 hour bus ride to Nairobi was definitely grueling, with the roughest roads I've been on in a long time. especially on the Tanzania side. At least the Kenya side it looks. Anyway, we finally made it to Naivasha town ...

Adventures in Moshi: October 2009

http://malavikaintanzania.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Fogarty East Africa Unites! After 55 emails of planning, we pulled it off! The 7 Fogarties in East Africa (Miriam and Samar in Kampala, Anne and Kristin in Nairobi, Maria in Dar es Salaam, Todd in Eldoret, Kenya, and me) met up for a weekend in Kampala - the main purpose being to raft the rapids at the source of the Nile. Seriously! Friday in Kampala was totally random and fun! A blood drive in downtown Kampala (on Nakasero)! Kampala has these menacing storks roaming everywhere! Well it turns out that on...

Adventures in Moshi: Nipo nyumbani!

http://malavikaintanzania.blogspot.com/2009/12/nina-nyumbani.html

Singapore, that is, for those of you who can't keep up :). After a protracted trip, with a stopover in Nairobi and another in Dubai, I am relaxing. I almost wrote 'finally' relaxing, but that would imply I'm always busy in Moshi - which isn't quite accurate! There's always work to be done, but it's nothing like the pace of life in the U.S., which has been a welcome, if boring at times, change! More on this in the next post. All the riders were Caucasian, British-accented ex-pats or in-country 1st- or 2nd...

Adventures in Moshi: Kilimanjaro Half Marathon Weekend

http://malavikaintanzania.blogspot.com/2010/03/kilimanjaro-half-marathon-weekend.html

Kilimanjaro Half Marathon Weekend. My friends and colleagues noticed and have slowly, one-by-one, started asking why I drink so much water (I'm sure the doctors among this group are thinking. diabetes insipidus? It doesn't help that I run early most mornings and start my day thirsty. but a nice segueway into talking about the marathon weekend. The Moshi 5K fun run - which was the only. Race that did sound like fun! For the half-marathoners and marathoners, and a huge party at the end! Off we went at a &#...

I Bless the Rains: April 2010

http://andrewweinhold.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

I Bless the Rains. Saturday, April 24, 2010. Nothing new. I still live here. So post away. I mostly thought of this because I have realized how often things here have differed from my expectations. Hopefully hearing straight from the visiting horse's mouth can give people a better idea of what it's like.at least compared to the Discovery Channel, the news, and old British anthropological papers. Dear Paullins, Thanks for Bananagrams. Sincerely, me. Dave Matthews Band - Stay or Leave. Wide awake in africa.
