Maryom's Garden

Welcome to my little suburban oasis, filled with flowers, fruit trees and vegetables. Friday, 14 August 2015. Picked earlier this week. It's the time of year when every allotment trip sees us coming home laden down with lots and lots of veg. Courgettes, white radish, cucumber (first of the season). Huge box of onions as we decided to lift them all. Runner beans, peas and spinach. French beans and broccoli. A smallish cabbage, lifted before it burst. And a mix of blackberries and late raspberries. Last week...

Maryom's Garden: August 2015

http://maryomsgarden.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Welcome to my little suburban oasis, filled with flowers, fruit trees and vegetables. Sunday, 23 August 2015. Picking, picking, picking. Every trip down to the allotment sees something more being harvested. All the onions and garlic are now lifted, and strung up to dry. Every visit there are more runner beans to pick! The courgettes are growing faster than we can use them, and now the cucumbers are beginning to crop. And the tomatoes - again, far too many to use so some are already ending up in the freezer.

Maryom's Garden: Picked this week - 12th April 2015

http://maryomsgarden.blogspot.com/2015/04/picked-this-week-12th-april-2015.html

Welcome to my little suburban oasis, filled with flowers, fruit trees and vegetables. Monday, 13 April 2015. Picked this week - 12th April 2015. A couple of good handfuls of mixed salad leaves and more radishes. It doesn't look a lot but it's always exciting to pull the first crops of the year. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Gathered up the small, unusable garlic cloves and planted them outside today. garlic needs a spell of cold weather to grow properly and, tho. Back from the holidays.

Maryom's Garden: It's not all peas and beans....

http://maryomsgarden.blogspot.com/2015/07/its-not-all-peas-and-beans.html

Welcome to my little suburban oasis, filled with flowers, fruit trees and vegetables. Wednesday, 22 July 2015. It's not all peas and beans. We seem inundated at the moment with pea and broad beans from the allotment .but that's not all that's ready to be picked. Last week we lifted the garlic - not a bad crop at all this year. Salvaged the remains of some over-sprouted broccoli and a red cabbage that looked ready to burst any minute. More raspberries, and some blackcurrants. The first beetroot of the year!

Maryom's Garden: First of the month - August

http://maryomsgarden.blogspot.com/2015/08/first-of-month-august.html

Welcome to my little suburban oasis, filled with flowers, fruit trees and vegetables. Sunday, 2 August 2015. First of the month - August. The day - and the month - started off sunny, so we briefly went to the allotment and came back with a box of goodies - potatoes, rhubarb, a few raspberries, blackcurrants, gooseberries and even blackberries,. Tomatoes (probably the first of a glut). French and runner beans. A handful of peas. Courgettes (definitely well into a glut of these). Hiding the straight lines.

Maryom's Garden: Flowers everywhere...

http://maryomsgarden.blogspot.com/2015/05/flowers-everywhere.html

Welcome to my little suburban oasis, filled with flowers, fruit trees and vegetables. Wednesday, 13 May 2015. It seems at the moment that more flowers are blossoming every day, and the daffodils and tulips are dying back without being noticed. White bells and honesty full the lawn borders. The clematis montana is now covering the back fence with flower . And lilac will soon be flowering to hide the shed. Even the practical plants are looking beautiful - the second apple tree is blossoming.

Anyone for dock pudding? (25 days to go…) |

https://ruralidiocy.wordpress.com/2011/05/06/anyone-for-dock-pudding-25-days-to-go

Welcome to our home…. A handmade peasant life. Anyone for dock pudding? 25 days to go…). I’ve not even started yet and it’s apparent this subsistence thing is like crossing a big, hungry river on wobbly stepping stones. But even more profoundly peasanty is deciphering the back-story that is the hedgerow harvest. Could there be an unbroken, three-season narrative to uncover, starting with the wild garlic and ending with wild mushrooms? I’ve already discovered that the main attraction of this food. Back in...

Rambling Mole: April 2012

http://ramblingmole.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Friday, 27 April 2012. Porch - more slow progress. Because of the weather I have not been able to get out much this week. We did go to B&Q and buy the window furniture for the porch (why is it called furniture please someone? I managed to get it all fitted without too much grief - much to my surprise. I had expected to have problems getting the latch pins in the right places but with care it all worked. Tuesday, 24 April 2012. Allotment before the rain comes. I slipped down there for an hour today before...

Country Bliss - the allotment. Started in the middle of May 2009, we hope by trial and error to grow most of our vegetables. Tuesday, 25 May 2010. We found a slo worm in the compost heap, surprisingly hard to photograph this was the best of 10 shots. Just about empty plot at the beginning of May. Inside the shed cucumbers, courgettes, pattypans, butternut squash, pumpkin and a messy floor. Runner beans coming along very quickly. In the greenhouse shed everything is shooting up sweetcorn,. Rambling Mole: Allotment before the rain comes.

http://ramblingmole.blogspot.com/2012/04/allotment-before-rain-comes.html

Tuesday, 24 April 2012. Allotment before the rain comes. The forecast suggests that in the next five days we will get a month's rain. They don't seem to say what month though. August would be good! But I suspect not as it amounts to about 60mm or 2.3 inches in English. Having cut Granddad's grass today as well has planted his row of Alderman peas, I decided it was time to do mine. Apart from that I also managed to find time to pick our first radishes of the season. Now to hope the forecasters are wrong.

Rambling Mole: June 2012

http://ramblingmole.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 12 June 2012. Sunday afternoon we were offered another piece of allotment. Truth is we did ask and have been watching a few, but this is one we would rather it not have been. Why? So yesterday I took a couple of hours to make a start and get the weed cleared and some digging done. Unfortunately rain came in before I got very far but, leaving a path (a sort of zone to prevent disputes really) I started. and although I didn't get very far through the heap of weeds grew rapidly. I once read somewhe...

Rambling Mole: May 2011

http://ramblingmole.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Monday, 9 May 2011. I have been trying to concentrate on building a lean-to greenhouse for the allotment to go against the shed, the trouble is that with digging, planting and weed control there just aren't enough hours in the day! Because of this everything needs netting, which is a bit of a nuisance but occasionally we find pigeon feathers scattered around so we know that the resident fox family has been at work, although it may be the friendly buzzards. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Last week turned out...

Country Bliss - the allotment. Started in the middle of May 2009, we hope by trial and error to grow most of our vegetables. Wednesday, 15 June 2011. April and May 2011. Whoops first blog of the year! In March/April I sowed the seeds at home. We bought a small polytunnel. Early May saw lots of flowers on the strawberries and we planted the sweetcorn. Doubly protected from the pheasants with upended plant pots and netting. St and 2nd Earlies doing well and the ground was so dry. This year we are growing:.

Country Bliss - the allotment. Started in the middle of May 2009, we hope by trial and error to grow most of our vegetables. Friday, 22 July 2011. Everything is a bit slow growing here this year but things are slowly starting to pick up. In the polytunnel we've been picking cucumbers, Basil, coriander and salad leaves. There's now plenty of flowers on the Tomatoes, Aubergines, Chillies and Jalapeno's. Lots of green tomatoes but no sign of red ones yet. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). This is a Flickr...
