In 1756 Thomas Gschladt auditioned for the Salzburg court and struck up a great relationship with the Mozart family. Musically he impressed them so much that Leopold Mozart dedicated three movements of his Serenade (now often heard as a concerto) to the solo trombone; his son, the young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, also wrote a solo part for him, in the aria Jener Donnerworte Kraft.
