2015 was a day that I am not soon to forget. It was my friend Autumn’s 21. Birthday and we were all ready to go out on the town in Ashland, Oregon. However, the night didn’t go as planned. I didn’t go out with my friends to celebrate. Instead, I remained in my dorm room with a heavy heart, nausea, and tears streaming down my face. October 24, 2013. Hallman’s story was unbelievably sad, and heart warming. Reading about Sam and his birth defect made me realize how much of life I took for granted growing up. I didn’t really have a hard time socially in middle school or high school. I didn’t have something that made me stand out from everyone else.
