Juggling life as a mom and an engineer in academia. Balancing life as an associate professor in engineering at a research university and a mom to small children. Tuesday, August 31, 2010. I longingly look at my to-do list once manageable and now filling with items. The manuscripts unfinished fall by the wayside. The papers to-read are buried in the pile. Juggling life as a mom and an engineer in academia: Sometimes it pays to be nice

http://mommy-engineer.blogspot.com/2011/01/sometimes-it-pays-to-be-nice.html

Juggling life as a mom and an engineer in academia. Balancing life as an associate professor in engineering at a research university and a mom to small children. Sunday, January 23, 2011. Sometimes it pays to be nice. This should be obvious, but in the world of academia where it seems like the self centered, selfish faculty members are the ones at the top of pile when it comes to research grant money and lab size, sometimes I wonder if all the service is really worth it. Tuesday, June 23, 2009. Ugh, I totally never caught up on last week. I wanted to blog about Xander's. First trip to the zoo on saturday. But now that's been two weeks ago. Eh, I'll tell you all a little about it anyway. It really wasn't much special, but I wanted to be sure we took him to do something. Fun and centered around him before Ethan gets here. So we took a break from working on the baby's room, and cleaning and laundry and all that jazz and we went. Xander. At Tuesday, June 23, 2009. It's been ...

Preparing for First Time Labour. How do I know I am doing this right? I have never done it before. What will work for one person may not work for the next. To prepare my body for labour. I am currently 34 weeks pregnant today! A few weeks back I had a hospital visit after a little spotting over night. I didn't realize how I was suppose to call the Dr right away and I had waited until morning to be told to go straight to the hospital. Well, this visit was eye opening for me! I was absolutely starving.

Mommy Drive By

Sunday, February 18, 2007. I was surprised and happy to see a recent upsurge in site visits from Australia, and most of them were coming from a post on an Australian baby issues website called Essential Baby. The poster there had not heard of the term "mommy drive by" (or "mummy drive by" in the case of Australia! And I started to wonder to what extent drive-bys are an American phenomenon? By the same token, maybe giving and receiving advice is viewed differently in different places? This question of cul...

Juggling life as a mom and an engineer in academia. Balancing life as an associate professor in engineering at a research university and a mom to small children. Thursday, May 5, 2011. Summer stands just on the horizon with all it's promise and potential. Uninterrupted research time, which for me these days means time to read the literature, write papers and grants. Time to think about larger things than just how to make it through the next week. Fewer meetings and crises? Monday, February 14, 2011.

Saturday, January 27, 2018. I recently bought a fabulous pair of platform pearl shoes which got me inspired to make a pair of jeans to go with them. If you are not aware embellished pearls on just about everything are trending right now. Instead of paying $50 or more for a pair of pearl jeans I decided to make some. Step 1: place the pearls how you want them on your jeans. Step 2: Use a piece of chalk to mark the spot for each pearl. Sequin Cardigan: Fabulous Furs. Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Fall is almos...
