After the official closure of the reserve in 1910-11, local Whites continued to allow Natives to use the southeast quarter for ceremonial purposes up until the last ceremonies in 1944. Sitting Eagle, the last shaman, lived northwest of the circular area in the middle of the map, until his death in 1944. The Turtle and the Serpent. Stages in the Development of Turtle Mountain. 1 30,000 BC. Maximum extent of the Wisconsin glacial period. The glacier, flowing generally from northeast to southwest, has penetrated the Missouri Plateau (brown) in places, leaving isolated limestone buttes. 2 12,000-6,000 BC. As the glacial front retreats towards the northeast, the troughs it gouged out fill with floodwater. A series of lake levels fill and empty in turn as the glacier and the floodwaters diminish. 3 10,000 BC.

Construction on the Provo City Center Temple (formerly know as the tabernacle) continues. It is now doing a balancing act as it has been recently lifted onto stilts as workers excavate below for the basement. The old tabernacle still sits where it was and the stilts are there to hold it as crews dig out and down nearly 40 feet for the two underground floors that will be built.
