Nourish: Fighting Fear
http://nourishourselves.blogspot.com/2015/01/fighting-fear.html
Thursday, January 22, 2015. Went for a routine CT scan last Thursday, routine as far as keeping an eye on the liver tumors, which have mercifully been shrinking. I tried to put it out of my mind. I believe if you imagine negative outcomes, they can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. It was too late to call her to get details and but the implications were not good, something must have shown on the CT scan. Because I didn’t know what the results had been, I assumed the worst. I was a MESS. But when push co...

Nourish: My Journey, Part 4
http://nourishourselves.blogspot.com/2008/11/my-journey-part-4.html
Saturday, November 1, 2008. My Journey, Part 4. And where was all this fun leading? The second day I was in the hospital, Dr., we’ll call him Green, the neurologist, advised me I had something called Transverse Myelitis. I asked, what about the Multiple Sclerosis the ED doctor mentioned? Home, walking, on my own two feet, from which I shall go back to work. Instead I just bleakly parroted, “Rehabilitation hospital? 8221; I blurted, “Why didn’t Dr. Green tell me any of this? Would he maintain his status?

Nourish: Good Girl
http://nourishourselves.blogspot.com/2008/03/good-girl.html
Friday, March 14, 2008. My Corgi died this afternoon. Her full name was Ruby’s Lady Cordelia and she would have been 11 years old on March 26. We called her Corrie. 8221;, she would lift that little four-inch leg off the ground as high as she could. I swear she smiled while she did it because it even cracked her up. She was a happy dog who made us happy. She was beautiful with a personality to match, funny, affectionate and loyal. She was a small dog with a big bark. She was. I did. And I will. Your post...

Nourish: Do Not Fear, For I Am With You
http://nourishourselves.blogspot.com/2014/12/do-not-fear-for-i-am-with-you.html
Thursday, December 25, 2014. Do Not Fear, For I Am With You. I have been struggling with much grief and fear this holiday season. My beloved family is fractured, some of my children estranged, it seems, beyond restoration. Being a mother has been the bliss of my life. Without them, meaning, pleasure, any sense of satisfaction, has paled, despite the outstanding nourishment of my many friends, my remarkable daughter, who is endlessly supportive and helpful, and my delightful grandchildren. Breast cancer w...

Nourish: My Journey, Part 2
http://nourishourselves.blogspot.com/2008/10/my-journey-part-2.html
Tuesday, October 28, 2008. My Journey, Part 2. To be fair, he listened and gave me a seemingly thorough neurological exam, the results of which should have sent me flying to an emergency room. A test for proprioception, outstretched right pinkie to nose with my eyes closed, overshot my nose and landed at my left eye every single time. Over and over again I missed abysmally. Hmm, he said, rather than the totally appropriate, holy shit! 8221; She looked at me like I was nuts, but she stayed put. 8221; He w...

Nourish: Just Some Random Tuesday Observations
http://nourishourselves.blogspot.com/2015/02/just-some-random-tuesday-observations_17.html
Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Just Some Random Tuesday Observations. It can often be the small victories that make your day:. I finally cleaned up a computer virus that was tormenting me. It’s finally gone. I am giddy with relief and flushed with triumph. Well, maybe the triumph bit is going a bit far. But I am definitely giddy. Of course that may have something to do with my monthly IV steroid infusion, Soulmedrol coursing through my veins, giving me the illusion that I am Superwoman. But a box of thirty.

Nourish: Suffering
http://nourishourselves.blogspot.com/2008/02/suffering.html
Thursday, February 21, 2008. I love Evensong. For one thing, it means I don’t have to get up and dressed early on a Sunday. (What can I say? You thought maybe I was some kind of saint? I love the peacefulness of the ancient prayers, the connection to thousands of people over hundreds of years reciting the same words, joining in worship through time and space. Our parish’s Assisting Ecumenical Priest, Rev. William Forbes, delivered a moving homily and related this parable:. He replied, “Some of my f...

Nourish: Precious Boy
http://nourishourselves.blogspot.com/2008/07/precious-boy.html
Friday, July 11, 2008. We spent Thursday afternoon with my precious grandson, James Shepard. He is sweet and funny and breathtakingly gorgeous. Mary Kate spent about a half an hour pumping up the little pool we got him. After it was filled with water, he primarily played with the box, a broken hose nozzle, Bella (“Bluh Bluh”, with lots of accompanying spit) and his lunch. I found these actions hilarious and made no attempt to stop him. The more I laughed, the more he clowned. Be still my heart! July 11, ...
