An expat mom grows stuff. Monday, January 1, 2007. Welcome to my garden. In January 2007 I signed our family up for an allotment, or volkstuin. At our local allotment or volkstuinvereniging. The allotment is in Amstelveen, on the Nesserlaan and is part of the moestuin. Complex called de Nesserlaan Tuinvereniging. I've still been working in the garden, but mostly just to weed, tidy up and harvest stuff. We have had a remarkable butternut and gemsquash harvest. Great raspberries and blackberries. Nasty apples. An expat mom grows stuff. Tuesday, June 26, 2007. Since I last wrote lots has happened . I dug up our first potatoes. Which, though tasty were not quite ready. We may have to take what we can get though because they are suffering from ' holheid. The garden got flooded. We had localised floods two weeks ago just before I went to London and most of the garden was underwater. Most of the plants seemed to do ok. The teepees for the peas. Didn't withstand the wind and the pea plants have since been removed.

Dagboek van een beginner. Omdat ik de tuin in november heb gekregen, had ik niet zo heel veel keuze. Ik heb doordragende, van de soort Ostara. Eergisteren zag ik de eerste rode aardbei. Helaas was de onderkant nog geel/groen, maar het begint erop te lijken. Maar wat is nu de beste manier om ze te beschermen? Nu de aardbeien rood beginnen te worden, zie ik bij mijn collega-tuinders allerlei constructies verrijzen. Ruwweg zijn er 5 soorten:. Het vogelnet min of meer los over de aardbeien leggen of spannen.

Het tuinieren gaat uitstekend. Bij ons is precies de goede hoeveelheid water gevallen. Ik kan Midden Limburg aanbevelen als vakantieplek. Dagboek van een beginner. Moestuin: voors en tegens. Het is weer even geleden dat ik een stukje heb geschreven. De laatste weken voor de schoolvakantie waren druk door allerlei acitiviteiten in verband met de school van de kinderen en de verjaardag van mijn oudste zoon. Daar kwam dus de volkstuin nog bovenop. Dit heeft mij gebracht om de voors en tegens van de moestuin op een rijtje te zetten. Biologisch geteelde groente en fruit voor een prikkie. Ik vind het leuk om te doen. Naast het huis heb ik nu een kleine moestuin en manlief heeft het gelijk goed aangepakt: 15 bedden heb ik nu van ongeveer 3.00 x 1.20 m, waarom heen stenen paadjes lopen. Dagboek van een beginner. Het is zover: de eerste aardbeien uit eigen tuin. 8 stuks maar liefst. Maar helaas, ze halen het niet bij de aardbeien die ik normaal eet. Zucht. ze zijn best lekker, beter dan de supermarkt, maar niet echt zoet. Dat betekent dat ik op zoek ga naar andere aardbeiensoorten. Ik zal zo her en der eens een proefexemplaar vragen :). Dagboek van een beginner. De zaden zijn besteld en komen als het goed is in de eerste helft van januari. Het weer is een beetje vreemd. Ik heb volgens mij nog nooit een gesloten aardappelgewas met bloemen op 1 juni gehad! Ik kan er al niet meer in om te wieden. Volgens mijn tuinkalender van VELT (klik. Moet er begin juni een net over de aardbeien. Als ik het zo inschat ben ik ongeveer halverwege de oogst vandaag op 3 juni. Ik ben al ruim 14 dagen aan het oogsten. Met mijn doordragende aardbeien (Elvira) heb ik minder plezier. Er komen maar weinig aardbeien per keer aan en ik vind ze wat flauw van smaak.
