LOADED VS EMPTY BARGES. The photos below show loaded and empty barges on the Nanticoke River in Delaware = Barge companies say the river needs to be dredged to allow existing commercial barge traffic to continue. However, as you can see from the photos, loaded barges are traveling the river nearly daily. So could the intent of dredging be to allow the barge companies to push even larger and potentially more destructive barges on the Nanticoke River?

An Example of the Harm Being Caused. After years of abuse from barge collisions with the shoreline and pounding by boat wakes, we started contacting County, State and Federal officials (and the Barge companies) in 2004 about problems and damage to our river bank. In June, 2006 our river bank finally collapsed during the torrential rains in June, 2006. Now, 4 years and many thousands of dollars later, all of the permits have been issued ( see Who Knows. And Nanticoke River Regulations.

On Monday, December 22, 2008 a barge being pushed by the Tug Gram-me ran aground on the Nanticoke River between channel markers 56 and 57. See below photos and videos. WARNING - THE VIDEO FILES ARE VERY LARGE. So that the shoreline would not be damaged. The tug operator did not report the grounding and (since the grounding was. And did not cause over $25,000.00 in.
