Evidence of Telepathy in a Nonverbal Autistic Child - Diane Hennacy Powell
http://dianehennacypowell.com/evidence-telepathy-nonverbal-autistic-child
Meet Dr. Powell. Science & Spirituality. Evidence of Telepathy in a Nonverbal Autistic Child. Here is the abstract for my recent presentation at the Parapsychological Association’s meeting:. By Diane Hennacy Powell. The “Closeminding” of America*. Breaking the Silence and Introducing ISSAC. Aug 27, 2014. Very interesting but I’m confused. Did the telepathy tests that were mentioned in your PA abstract involve touching her shoulder? And did they all involve a divider that prevented visual cues? Diane, it&...

I’m High Functioning… but – The Autistic Mermaid
https://theaspiemermaid.wordpress.com/2016/11/12/im-high-functioning-but
I’m High Functioning… but. Time and time again, and most recently, yesterday, on a comment thread on Facebook, Neurotypical adults (usually parents of autistic children) see me (and other autistic adults) express ourselves well, eloquently and articulately online and make huge assumptions about us. Well this post is a big FUCK YOU to all those NTs who make such judgements and refuse to accept that autistics like me have anything in common with their children. I’m high functioning but… followi...I’m...

Solitude – The Autistic Mermaid
https://theaspiemermaid.wordpress.com/2016/08/07/solitude
There’s something poetic about being alone. And I mean totally alone, not just hiding upstairs from your family. When every ounce of tension just washes out of you like a tide receding on the beach. Everything becomes a little clearer and more pure. When your heart rate slows down and your breathing follows suit. When the circus in your brain packs up and moves on. When you can focus on the one thing that you want to instead of the 20 things intruding your mind. When you can allow yourself to get sucked ...

Executive (Dys)Function – The Autistic Mermaid
https://theaspiemermaid.wordpress.com/2016/05/20/executive-dysfunction
You can’t function without Executive Function. It’s the processing power that enables you to do what you need to do, think what you need to think about and get stuff done. Your inner motivator if you will. And the dog itself. Then you need to remember your keys, to lock the door behind you and plan your route, making sure the dog gets enough exercise, but also that you’re back in time for dinner. Oh, and don’t forget to take your phone. What’s the weather like? Where are my shoes? Where are the poo bags?

Fight/flight – The Autistic Mermaid
https://theaspiemermaid.wordpress.com/2016/09/25/fightflight
It’s a well known psychological theory that when faced with something scary or that could harm us (physically, emotionally etc) the human nervous system kicks into an ancient instinctual fight or flight mode. You have the choice whether to stand your ground and fight your opponent, with your fists or your words, or to run away (literally or figuratively). Id also like to add “freeze” into the mix as sometimes you can’t process quickly enough to make a decision. Non direct confrontation is different thoug...

Absence – The Autistic Mermaid
https://theaspiemermaid.wordpress.com/2016/07/25/absence
I just posted on twitter about not having blogged for a while due to lack of laptop but also feeling inferior to other autistic bloggers who I feel are so much more articulate and succinct than I could ever be. Should I explore why I feel like that? But I’m not “official” yet. Does that matter? It does to some people. It shouldn’t matter to me but I guess it does in some ways. Some days I forget that I’m autistic. I think that’s because I’m just me and immediately going about my lif...And some days I fee...

April 2016 – The Autistic Mermaid
https://theaspiemermaid.wordpress.com/2016/04
What I’ve Learnt. April 19, 2016. April 15, 2016. Challenges of being a parent with Aspergers. Having a neurotypical child, she wanted to do this sort of thing. I avoided it as much as possible. I can never be the parent who will fling a blanket over our heads and pretend we’re camping in the desert, creating an elaborate story that goes along with it. I just can’t. 8221; Only it’ll be because of my sensory issues. I will encourage the use of wireless headphones. The Aspie Mermaid x. April 10, 2016.
