Lilies and Elephants: January 2015
http://liliesandelephants.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Why Lilies and Elephants? Friday, January 30, 2015. When Things Go Wrong As They Sometimes Will. When things go wrong, as they sometimes will. It's a line from one of my favorite inspirational pieces, the poem Don't Quit. It felt appropriate for this post. Life is queer with its twists and turns. As every one of us sometimes learns. Yet this little boy has now so stolen my heart and having him in my life seems so natural. You never can tell how close you are. It may be near when it seems so far. A friend...

Lilies and Elephants: No De-Feet
http://liliesandelephants.blogspot.com/2015/07/no-de-feet.html
Why Lilies and Elephants? Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Upon the completion of my second Overnight Walk, I began looking for an opportunity to continue to help AFSP. On a more regular basis. I love the Overnight, and will continue to participate, but I would love to be involved more than once a year, and to help here at the local level. I reached out to some of the local chapters, and it just so happens that there are opportunities for helping with, and participating in, chapter events and activities. The Trut...

Cinn's ultrasound is clear! Certainly not her, and it's a small price to pay for such a hopeful result. July 25, 2015 at 11:16 AM. July 27, 2015 at 5:55 PM. Yes, Cinn did handle it very well, and the tech and vet said a very sweet and good girl! Im glad it wasnt bad for her. or me! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What Sitt...

Lilies and Elephants: Does Chronic Illness Make Us Less Concerned About Acute Sickness?
http://liliesandelephants.blogspot.com/2015/07/does-chronic-illness-make-us-less.html
Why Lilies and Elephants? Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Does Chronic Illness Make Us Less Concerned About Acute Sickness? I got to thinking: why is this? I've had some pretty rough illnesses in my life including scarlet fever, shingles, German measles, mono, Epstein barre, and encephalitis that spawned from (apparently) a very basic cold or virus that worked itself into my brain. One would think I'd be overly cautious. But upon further reflection, I think I began to understand. Let's Keep In Touch!

Lilies and Elephants: December 2014
http://liliesandelephants.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Why Lilies and Elephants? Wednesday, December 31, 2014. The Ups and Downs of 2014. Ups and downs. Mood cycling. Get it? I can't pass up a pun, even if it's at my own expense. Cheesiness aside, 2014 was filled with a lot of action, and I thought it worth writing about. Well, quite frankly, isn't it better to create life goals, both big and small, and then actually make a plan - which includes things I can do this year, this month, and even this week - to help me get there? We had a Northen family reunion ...

Lilies and Elephants: May 2015
http://liliesandelephants.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Why Lilies and Elephants? Friday, May 29, 2015. Take It Or Leave It. It's been a long journey. There were times, not so long ago, I might add, that I would change everything for people. A friend would get upset at a trait and I'd rush around apologizing and trying to change it. Or I'd see everyone was acting one way and think "wtf is wrong with me? I have a lifelong mood cycling condition that won't go away. Period. I have ups, I have downs, I have. What is it this time? I'm on medication and I go to the...

Lilies and Elephants: March 2015
http://liliesandelephants.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Why Lilies and Elephants? Thursday, March 26, 2015. This morning a coworker asked me how I was doing. I jokingly used the old refrain "same sh*t, different day," and we both nodded and laughed. But then I corrected myself and said that actually, every day of my life is surprising. My coworker replied, "that's beautiful." I laughed and said that I guess it depended on the surprise, but it got me thinking on the topic. Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Seven Deadly Sins - Sloth and Gluttony. Monday, March 16, 2015.

Lilies and Elephants: July 2015
http://liliesandelephants.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Why Lilies and Elephants? Thursday, July 30, 2015. What Those With Mental Health Conditions Wish You Knew. There's nothing "wrong" with us. I don't run around being all squeamish about your diabetes or asthma or heart murmur. We're not Frankenstein. We're humans with a medical condition. We don't want to always have to be the one to start the conversation about it. Nobody wants to continuously have to say "So, let's talk about my health problems again! But we do want to feel like we can be "real" with you.
