An Austin arborist's view of trees
Notes from a treedweller: January 2011
http://notesfromatreedweller.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Notes from a treedweller. An Austin arborist's view of trees. Sunday, January 16, 2011. Random thoughts on a rainy day. Something I did today that I should do more often: ate food I made from actual ingredients in my own house. Something that really didn't surprise me today: really old Malt-o-Meal from the back of the refrigerator tastes kind of rancid. That wasn't the only food as mentioned above, thankfully. Something I did today that almost nobody ever does: roasted my own coffee in a popcorn popper.

Notes from a treedweller. An Austin arborist's view of trees. Tuesday, October 20, 2009. After one of the hottest, driest summers Austin has ever seen, we finally got some rain last month. Not just a quick shower that disappears in minutes, but days of slow, steady soaking. For fans of crape myrtles ( Lagerstroemia indica. It was a sweet reward. Crape myrtles are native to Asia, but they do well almost everywhere. They are tough, reliable trees. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Tree Care Industry Association.

Notes from a treedweller. An Austin arborist's view of trees. Saturday, February 20, 2010. One puzzle to go (21X) in the morning. Whatever miracles I may have been hoping for have not materialized, so I look forward to solving it for fun, then watching the finals. Me think I have a chance at solving #5. Incidentally, if you get a chance to see the paper exhibit at the Museum of Arts and Design, it's well worth the trip. Now it's time for lunch and regrouping. More later. Friday, February 12, 2010. Since ...

Notes From a Tiny Island
Notes From a Tiny Island. Well they sent Joe McKenzie to an island deep in the Pacific. This is what can be hesitantly called the result. Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Both the news itself and its delivery represented precisely the kind of casual incompetence that I had grown used to, even fond of, a year earlier. Chuuk is an isolated archipelago about 1800 kilometres North East of New Guinea and is the most populous state in the Federated States of Micronesia. I had lived on the main island of Weno for ten ...

Wednesday, September 22, 2004. Consumers screwed in Texas. On his first day as governor of Texas, George W. Bush declared that limiting lawsuits was an "emergency issue" for his state. We must put a stop to the frivolous and junk lawsuits which clog our courts," he said in January 1995, a popular line he has repeated often since then. The impact has been felt by home buyers such as Mary and Keith Cohn, whose elegant new residence in this well-off Houston suburb came with a leaky roof that led to rotting ...

Notes from a treedweller. An Austin arborist's view of trees. Wednesday, August 3, 2011. People often ask to have the "suckers" removed from trees. The problem starts with the name itself. Looks good to some, but weakens trees. Everyone has a different opinion about how far this should go, of course, but the basic idea is the same. At its worst, this practice is sometimes called "lion-tailing" or "poodle-dogging" because of the puff of green leaves at the end of long, bare poles. Cut one, get several.

Saturday, 5 November 2016. Enemies of the people". However, those most vocal about our Courts and our Parliament deciding about our matters were screaming in vocal, printed and electronic form within minutes of the judgement. Fascists are using the word "democracy" so often in their rhetoric. The self-co...

Our family's Hebridean adventure. June 30, 2015. July 1, 2015. Its been a busy time settling in up here so apologies for not keeping more up to date with the blog! There have been times to relax in between all the work thank goodness. We have had enough sun to do some amazing trips out and about though. I hope I’ll update again very soon ̵...
