Through the Mind to the Heart

Through the Mind to the Heart. Thursday, August 6, 2015. I would like to write about the Dormition Fast. That takes place during August. About how we set aside this time - the end of the liturgical year - to honor our beloved Mother. But I don't currently have the brain power to put the words together. So instead I am sharing this hymn with you. I suppose it's not exactly for the Dormition (more appropriate for the Annunciation), but it's what I have. Links to this post. Sunday, July 12, 2015. Through the Mind to the Heart: Lay aside all earthly cares

http://orthodoxmindandheart.blogspot.com/2014/01/lay-aside-all-earthly-cares.html

Through the Mind to the Heart. Friday, January 24, 2014. Lay aside all earthly cares. This is a recording of the Cherubic Hymn which is sung at every Divine Liturgy just before the Great Entrance. In the video the words are very long and drawn out, so it's sometimes hard to understand what is being said. Here are the words for those who are not familiar with this hymn:. Let us who mystically represent the Cherubim. And sing to the Life-giving Trinity the Thrice Holy Hymn. Now lay aside all earthly cares.

Through the Mind to the Heart: June 2015

http://orthodoxmindandheart.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Through the Mind to the Heart. Wednesday, June 24, 2015. O Lord Jesus Christ our God Who didst come into this world not to be ministered unto but to minister and to give Thy life as a ransom for many: help me, I beseech Thee in my ministry of caring for the children Thou hast given me. Enable me to be patient in tribulations,. To instruct with a meek and gentle spirit,. To reprimand with inner tranquility and a sober mind,. And to serve in humility of heart with love. May I thus live in Thee alone,.

I hope to write every so often about the things I do and the books I read to feed my mind and to enrich myself. But since I want all things that I do to have their foundation in Christ,. I think thou...

Through the Mind to the Heart: December 2014

http://orthodoxmindandheart.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Through the Mind to the Heart. Monday, December 29, 2014. Some things to consider. For a few months now I haven't been able to read as much as I normally do (early pregnancy will do that to you). But, thankfully, I've recently begun to be able to start back in again. I got my hands on a copy of Consider This. By Karen Glass, and I also won a copy of The Liberal Arts Tradition. By Kevin Clark and Ravi Scott Jain from Kortney's giveaway. But these good things are not the end. There is something I've be...

Through the Mind to the Heart: February 2015

http://orthodoxmindandheart.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Through the Mind to the Heart. Sunday, February 22, 2015. More Musings on Fasting. Keep in mind that many people have died for their beliefs; it's actually quite common. The real courage is in living and suffering for what you believe. Christopher Paolini in Eragon. I read these words as I was re-reading a book that I'd pulled of the shelf just for fun. Eragon. Fresh in my mind. At first I wasn't sure what to make of the above statement. Is it true that dying for one's beliefs is a common thing? But once...

Church in survival mode, or, I don't want to go today! I wake up and want to cry. Everything feels heavy, physically and emotionally. I'm exhausted and can't breathe properly, again. It's Sunday morning, and the last thing I want to do. Is go to church and spend the next few hours exhausting myself even more, trying to keep the kids quiet, trying not to disturb people, trying to avoid judgement over what a terrible job we're doing as parents. That's what it feels like anyway! Then, do you know what I do?

Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Thanksgiving Plans and Thoughts. I feel like Thanksgiving has snuck up on me this year. I guess I've had other things going on. But this week I've been thinking about it more, and I'd like to share a few things I'm particularly thankful for this year. That my husband's job was made full-time with benefits. The progress we've made toward a traditional, real food diet (raw milk, local meat, and kombucha to name a few). The friendships that have blossomed. That desk there is my...
