Now it's just a short scenic drive until you make a left on state route 672. You've made it. You're now atop Peel Chestnut Mountain. Suzanne Martin McLarnon - Class of 1972. What I remember about Pocahontas is that it was like growing up in a big extended family. As a kid, it was safe to stay out all day exploring - and visiting neighbors - as long as you were home for suppertime. We lived in Butts Hollow. Here are some of the wonderful things I remember. I also remember how my mother, Naomi Martin, loved everyone she knew. I would give anything to re-live just one day back in the 50s. Wally "Ducky" Sayko - Class of 1951.

Emma Yates Memorial Library. Pocahontas, VA 24635. The Emma Yates Memorial Library was once the home and milliner of Miss Emma Yates (1869 - 1954). The library is open Monday to Friday from 12noon until 5pm. The library carries a great selection of books for all ages. Authors include John Grisham, Fern Michaels, Debbie MaComber and Karen Kingsbury. You'll also find a wide selection of Christian Inspirational books as well as those on large print. The library will accept donations of any kind of media.

Each year, when the air starts to cool and the leaves begin to fall, Peel Chestnut Mountain is invaded by Giant Pumpkins! It's the Peel Chestnut Mountain Pumpkin Festival and it takes place every year on the 2nd Saturday in October at the Synan Homeplace. Hundreds, even thousands of folks come from all over for the music, food, fun, hayrides, games, apple butter and pumpkins. Lots and lots of pumpkins. There's something to do for everyone! And let's not forget those world famous fried bologna sandwiches!
