#prayforgraham

August 16, 2016. August 16, 2016. By Wes Hennings, from the funeral service of his son, Graham Taylor Hennings. This week someone asked me to describe Graham. That was such a strange request. I stumbled over my words for a couple minutes until one of my pastors graciously stepped in. That day words failed me in describing my precious son. Today is no different. There are some awful diagnoses, and then there’s SMA. Not many words describe it, especially words that I can say in a church. Those firs...That ...

December 12, 2015. When Graham was first diagnosed, there were tons of things we didn’t know. But one thing we knew for sure was that we wanted Kelly to stay home with him, to soak in every moment and provide care that only a mommy can. Also, please remember to pray for us on Tuesday, December 15, as Graham gets a g-tube placed for feeding. We are excited about what this means for making feedings easier for him, but surgery with his condition is always tricky. Click Here for Tickets. You are commenting u...

November 5, 2015. November 5, 2015. It’s hard to believe it has only been three weeks. Three weeks since our lives changed forever. It feels like a year. I guess time goes by slowly when you’re learning to live a completely different life. 8221; “He’s getting shots! 8221; I replied “I need support for that.”. Everyone seemed especially concerned about his muscle tone. “He’s sick,” I thought. “He’s not going to be at his best right now.” At least we were at ...8220;What do they think it is? When Wes final...

Thanks for Giving | #prayforgraham

November 26, 2015. I’ve always considered myself a pretty grateful person. I have a great job, a home with a picket fence, and a beautiful wife who gave me the greatest blessing in March — our son, Graham. But this year as millions gather around a turkey and a television set, Kelly and I will stand with our families around Graham’s bedside in the pediatric intensive care unit. And it’s the most thankful I’ve ever been. 27 thoughts on “ Thanks for Giving. November 26, 2015 at 2:30 pm. Thank you for the up...

Breaking the Bad News | Adventures in Medicine

https://kjmedschool.wordpress.com/2016/06/26/breaking-the-bad-news

Medical School and Beyond! Laquo; A Day in Savannah. Breaking the Bad News. On June 26, 2016. There is one thing we all have in common…at some point along life’s journey we will die. For some this occurs early on in the journey and for other people it is very late in the journey. This results in those in the medical field, most of the time physicians, must give the bad news about the death of a loved one or of a serious illness to patients and/or families. A Day in Savannah | Adventures in Medicine

Medical School and Beyond! Laquo; Surgery Week 1. Breaking the Bad News. A Day in Savannah. On April 18, 2016. The drive was pretty uneventful (except for all the roadkill along the road…including an armadillo) with beautiful scenery despite being mainly backroads. (One thing I have learned living in the south is that the most direct routes seem to utilize backroads rather than interstate unless you want to go out of your way). I would say my time in Savannah was success. Posted in Medical School. Addres...

Medical School and Beyond! Laquo; Oh My Lanta. For the Love of Pediatrics. On August 2, 2016. A little over 3 years ago when I first started this blog I intended for it to be a way for my followers to go on my journey through the medical field with me. This journey has been pretty amazing and included many different destinations. Destinations that have allowed me to bask in the awe of God’s creation and it does not appear to be stopping anytime soon. Lake Robinson in Taylors, SC). Lake Lure, NC). You are...

Medical School and Beyond! Laquo; Breaking the Bad News. On July 18, 2016. Just over a month ago (June 10th, 2016 to be exact) I began a TEMPORARY move from Augusta, GA to Atlanta, GA (which I will reverse in October…yeah! Greg Maddux played for both the Cubs and the Braves in his MLB career and he has a tribute at Turner Field. The stands would not have been this empty at Wrigley Field). Atlanta is also not so bad on Sunday morning when driving into Passion City Church. At 8:45 in the morning many p...

Medical School and Beyond! Laquo; Hope and Power in Blood. Kids, Kids, and More Kids :). On November 9, 2016. Since my last post I have finished up my time in ATL, went back home to Chicago for a 4 week elective rotation, and returned back to Augusta, GA. My last 4 weeks in ATL and my time in Chicago were interesting…but still educational. Before I get into the details about what I have been doing in rotations let talk about my progress with school. Medical School and Beyond! Laquo; Blessings and Mercies. Hope and Power in Blood. For the Love of Pediatrics. On August 14, 2016. I finished pediatrics about 3 weeks ago (after already completing a 4 week elective in neonatology). Despite having some difficult patients I still desire to become a pediatrician. However, I do have some interesting stories. 8221; (Does that remind anyone else of Toy Story where Woody says, “There’s a snake in my boot”? Posted in Clinical Rotations. Medical School and Beyond! Laquo; For the Love of Pediatrics. Hope and Power in Blood. On August 21, 2016. Wether you can handle blood or not one thing is the same…when someone is bleeding a way to stop it is sought. That is because blood is necessary to sustain life. With the advances in medicine blood can be oxygenated outside the body with ECMO and it can be detoxed outside the body with dialysis; it can be transfused. As heard in the song There Is Power In the Blood. Posted in Medical School. Inspiri...
