Thursday, July 9, 2009. Oh, I have really been bad. I promise I will be more diligent about updating. It has been crazy around the house with all the kids off of school and me trying to do three farm markets a week. I am leaving soon to do the Menasha Market. Well, time to load up the car and sell some soap! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Appleton, WI, United States. View my complete profile. My real job is making great soap! Soap Dance's Fan Box. Wednesday, September 15, 2010. Castor Oil Properties in Soap. Castor Oil in Soap. I thought it would be interesting to write about some of the oils I use in my soap. After making soap for over 10 years I have found that different oils contribute different qualities. Castor oil is derived from the seed of the plant. The castor plant is native to the southeastern Mediterranean basin, East Africa and India. India is the largest producer of castor oil followed by China and Brazil. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Soap Dance: Menasha Market
http://soapcauldron.blogspot.com/2010/07/menasha-market.html
Friday, July 9, 2010. The Menasha Farm Market is a great place to be on a Thursday afternoon! The atmosphere is relaxed and the vendors are terrific. My soap business is not only about selling soap but, more importantly, the relationships that you form with the other vendors. Panhia sells right next to me. She has 10 children - 6 girls and 4 boys! She is so tiny you would never beleive that she has 10 children! Here are some pictures of my set-up at the market:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Soap Dance: August 2010

Wednesday, August 4, 2010. Why I Oppose the Safe Cosmetics Act. When the Safe Cosmetics Act first came out, I was definitely in agreement with it. Who would not be in favor of safe cosmetics? They have a really nice video featuring Annie Leonard - who reminds me of a modern-day June Cleaver. Who wouldn't believe June Cleaver? However, just like June Cleaver is a fictional Hollywood character, this bill is also filled with fiction. And, "What is in it for them? Of course I would need to get my product tes...

Soap Dance: August 2008

Monday, August 25, 2008. Another idea I've had rolling around my head is a Soap Sampler. I thought it woud be a good idea to offer a "Sampler Pack" that would include little 1-ounce sizes of my soaps. I made an "Herbal and Earthy" one and a "Fruit and Floral" one. My brother was over when I was putting these together. First he said, "Wow, are you going to charge $12.95 for that? Anyway, I think they turned out really cool! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Soap Dance: Liquid Soap Update
http://soapcauldron.blogspot.com/2010/04/liquid-soap-update.html
Thursday, April 29, 2010. This is what my liquid soap looks like 2 weeks later! This is normal - it will probably take another few days before it is clear. This process is called sequestering. I added more glycerin and borax to my liquid soap after I tested the ph level. Sequestering comes from the Latin word, sesquestrare. Which means to remove, set aside or separate. The clouding of the soap is caused by insoluble fatty acids. Labels: natural liquid soap. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Soap Dance: Liquid Soap Adventure!
http://soapcauldron.blogspot.com/2010/04/liquid-soap-adventure.html
Wednesday, April 14, 2010. I am trying my hand at liquid soap again. I made it about two years ago using Catherine Failor's book, "Making Natural Liquid Soap". This is a great book to use as a reference. This is a picture of what the soap looks like after you combine the oil and butter mixture with the potassium hydroxide and water. It is imperative that you have an accurate scale. I went to a soapmaking class a few years ago just to see how it was being taught (and I was nosy). I cringed when th...I did...

Soap Dance: November 2009
http://soapcauldron.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 3, 2009. I bought a Dualit Hand Blender and am very happy with it - so far! It has a 500 watt motor and a turbo pulse button. It is stainless steel and unlike my last stick blender can go in the dishwasher. It is very easy to clean up which I love. I hated washing my last one by hand all the time. I got it from:. They have free shipping too! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Appleton, WI, United States. View my complete profile. My real job is making great soap! Soap Dance's Fan Box.
