Reading, Writing, and Random Musings. My Literary Adventures and Other Miscellaneous Tidbits. Book Review: A Sudden Light by Garth Stein. May 25, 2015. When a boy tries to save his parents’ marriage, he uncovers a legacy of family secrets in a coming-of-age ghost story by the author of the internationally bestselling phenomenon, The Art of Racing in the Rain. I always love Stein’s writing. He draws you in with the language he uses to describe things. I felt like some of the history of the characters was ...

One More Page…. Things I Learned From The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy. August 16, 2015. I haven’t done a “Things I Learned From…” feature since my first one on. So I thought I’d pick it up again for a book I absolutely adored:. The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy. The thing I loved most about the book is how empowering it is: there’s absolutely no shame in liking what you like, so go ahead and flaunt it! Here are some of the things I learned…. 3 The “ship name” for Peeta and Katniss fans from. If you&#82...

Superhero Party | Tales from the Nerdy

https://talesfromthenerdy.wordpress.com/2015/08/06/superhero-party

Tales from the Nerdy. This WordPress.com site is the bee's knees. August 6, 2015. I ran an All Ages Superhero Party for the SRP theme. The kids began by decorating masks and capes. I found the mask template online and simply traced it onto cardstock. The kids decorated their masks with crayons or makers and colored gems. The capes were plastic tablecloths. The only downside of these was that there were hard to paint since we only use tempera paint. Lastly, we played pin the star on Captain America’...

Candy Experiments | Tales from the Nerdy

https://talesfromthenerdy.wordpress.com/2015/06/10/candy-experiments

Tales from the Nerdy. This WordPress.com site is the bee's knees. June 10, 2015. I decided to have some fun with candy. Most of the experiments I found by doing a quick internet search, but I also found ideas in this book. We have an outside reading garden, so this was done out there to prevent mess. The Diet Coke and Mentos experiment was done on our front lawn. Drop Sour Patch Kids into a cup of clear water, sprinkle a bit of baking soda, and if the candy fizzes then it meant there was acid in the candy.

Tales from the Nerdy. This WordPress.com site is the bee's knees. June 17, 2015. In celebration of Father’s Day, I created a movement program for 2-4 year olds and their Dads. We began the program by doing some basic stretches. I found most of my action songs on the site Songs for Teaching. Here are some we did:. A snake will slide, and slide, and slide, and spin. Slide, and slide and slide, and spin to one side and back again. Snakes slide out and slither in. Rattle, and rattle, and rattle, and roll.

Blogging & Challenges. It’s Monday, May 18! What Are You Reading? Posted May 18, 2015 by LeahAdmin. Happy Monday, booklings! It’s been another slow reading and blogging week for me, but I’m determined to get back into the groove this week. By Dan Pope, which is about the secrets simmering underneath the surface of two suburban families. The blurb compared it to Tom Perrotta’s work, which I really liked when I read. Now I’m in the middle of. Land Where I Flee. What are you reading this week? I hope your o...

Tales from the Nerdy. This WordPress.com site is the bee's knees. April 26, 2015. I had a stuffed sheep, chicken, cow, and pig on my storytime table. We talked about the sounds they made and other animals that could be found on the farm. I’m not sure who git a bigger kick out of this, the kids or the parents. My flannel was Barnyard Lullaby and it’s all about the different animal mommies on the farm putting their babies to sleep. The Animals On the Farm. The pigs on the farm go oink, oink, oink. Bramley Apple Sausage Rolls with Apple and Pear Chutney. These sausage rolls are basically cheating when it comes to homemade baking. I mean I didn’t make the chutney or the puff pastry. Heck I could have even made my own sausage meat, but I didn’t. I bought all three of these ingredients and I put them together to make a delicious and easy picnic snack! Which is the theme of this month’s Pastry Challenge, the very one I co-host with Jen from Jen’s Food. 189; Bramley Apple, chopped small. 1 egg, beaten.

Tales from the Nerdy. This WordPress.com site is the bee's knees. October 27, 2014. To celebrate the upcoming “Mockingjay Part 1” movie, I held a Hunger Games inspired program for my teens. First up was the obstacle course:. 1 Make a line of hula hoops walk backwards from one hoop to the other. 2 I had a hat made out of a paper bag from a Dr. Seuss program. The teens needed to toss a crumpled piece of scrap paper into the hat. They had three tries. 4 Walk across our soft balance beam. Last up, I wanted t...

Reading, Writing, and Ranting

Reading, Writing, and Ranting. Monday, May 2, 2011. Is the fact that it took a DECADE to find a guy who was living less than a mile from an American military base something to celebrate? Is celebrating the death of this man all that different than the way he celebrated when the towers fell on that dark day? Would they ever have been so opposed to us that they were willing to die to make us suffer had we not been so arrogant as to think that we had the right to decide how the rest of the world ran? Congra...
