The Football Tragic: How the West Won't Be Won - yet another update
http://thefootballtragic.blogspot.com/2010/10/how-west-wont-be-won-yet-another-update.html
A light-hearted review of Australian and world football by a particularly tragic follower of both. Monday, October 25, 2010. How the West Won't Be Won - yet another update. And so it looks. As if the final chapter is about to be written in the farcical Sydney Rovers saga. The very first thing that the FFA should do is go hat in hand to the representatives of the Canberra bid, with a genuine assurance that future expansion bids will be assessed on their merits. This. The Football Tragic: The Long Winter
http://thefootballtragic.blogspot.com/2010/09/long-winter.html
A light-hearted review of Australian and world football by a particularly tragic follower of both. Friday, September 24, 2010. I expect that everyone is more or less Conned out by now, so all I will add to the cacophony of commentary on the Newcastle situation is the observation that the Hunter's new knight in shining armour should be eyed with some due scepticism. Hat tip to one of my e-friends for that link). Instead, some thoughts on another. Andwhat of the fans? For the uninitiated, the Super League ...

The Football Tragic: July 2006
http://thefootballtragic.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
A light-hearted review of Australian and world football by a particularly tragic follower of both. Monday, July 31, 2006. In one of the more pleasing transfers of the summer from an Australian perspective, Luke Wilkshire has completed. His anticipated move from Bristol City to Dutch Eredivisie club Twente Enschede. Many coaches would have discarded him from their World Cup plans then and there, but Hiddink persisted; Wilkshire was used at right wing-back in Australia’s opening game against Japan. He ...

The Football Tragic: March 2007
http://thefootballtragic.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
A light-hearted review of Australian and world football by a particularly tragic follower of both. Saturday, March 31, 2007. What began as a one-off kickaround between fans of opposing clubs has become, thanks to the dedicated efforts of certain individuals, a laudable Sydney FC spin-off. Tomorrow (April 1) marks the league debut, in the Eastern Suburbs Football Association, of the club now known as Lokomotiv Cove. But it was not to be just an. Phenomenon. A determined, tireless crew, comprising (amo...

The Football Tragic: August 2006
http://thefootballtragic.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
A light-hearted review of Australian and world football by a particularly tragic follower of both. Thursday, August 31, 2006. It seems Dwight Yorke may indeed be headed back to England. To join his erstwhile club colleague Roy Keane at Sunderland. One wonders how Yorke's easygoing on-field demeanour and playboy lifestyle will sit with the legendarily demanding Keane. Would be missed, but Terry Butcher's job might become just that little bit easier, in more ways than one. In the run-up to last year’s comp...

Matt's Football Blog: February 2009

Monday, February 16, 2009. A couple of weeks ago we heard some good news about the kits for next season’s A-league. Firstly, each club will have new kits next season – both home and away. Not only that, but Reebok (who still have exclusive designing rights to the A-league strips for the next two years) will finally allow clubs more freedom when designing their strips. I called for many of these changes a year ago, in my blog: 'A-league kits could be improved'. For the rest of the clubs I’ve only do...

Saturday, April 18, 2009. 2009-10 A-league Kits Released. Last Week, 8 out of the 10 Hyundai A-league clubs new kit were released. Still no word on Brisbane or the Gold Coast’s kits – but here’s a lot at those that were revealed:. Adelaide’s home kit is fairly similar to previous years, although there does appear to be some sort of pinstripe pattern – hard to tell from the low res images though. Looks good though. The away kit is a little retro, but is a nice change. Newcastle will not use their Champion...

Tuesday, April 6, 2010. 2018/2022 World Cup Bid - MCG. Australia’s bid to host either the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup is gathering momentum, the bid is capturing enormous media attention with one of the key issues being stadia that will be included in the FFA’s ‘bid book’, to be completed next month. So, my plan:. My diagram is fairly rough, but you get the idea. The lower tier of the MCG would need to be completely rebuilt, with the lower tier divided into 12 sections (8 which would be used for the ...
