Monday, January 9, 2012. What if Teachers Were Paid Like Professional Athletes? I had a few thoughts rolling around in my head over the holidays, and one had me thinking about the teaching profession, and how it pays its professionals. The question was, does our education system, with a basic structure of Superintendents, Administrators, and Teachers running. This isn't a debate about paying teachers more, but I was comparing the pay grades of these positions in terms of real value? The Teacher in Me.

Wednesday, February 2, 2011. As I've posted on Twitter, I think all teachers should view Sir Ken's video's on TED. Its important for Real Learning to happen in our ever changing world. Its irresponsible for a teacher to not consider his views! Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Moving forward a few years, I am proud to be an important part of Sir Ken Robinson's visit to Red Deer. We have over 700 people coming to hear him for our community night, and all of the eachers in CATCA ( www.mycatca.ca. It is your job t...

Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Should we radically change the school calendar? Recently I read an "article" about getting rid of summer vacation for kids. Read Here. Does our society create a situation where the parent(s) are working, and the student gets to stay home all day and play video games or watch TV? If parents are unable to enrich their childrens lives during the summer break, is it a schools job to "fix" this situation? A recent article in the Globe and Mail. Is trying to offer in Africa? Talk to hel...

The Pocket Rocket: Teaching is a Relationship Business

Thursday, July 21, 2011. Teaching is a Relationship Business. My wife's chance meeting with a retired teacher was a blessing for me because it caused me to reflect on the importance of relationships in teaching. A simple conversation in a waiting room, affirmed for me a comment a former Principal of mine once made to me. When I hire teachers, the first, and most important thing I look for is their ability to build relationships.". What kind of relationships will define your career? Be the best you can be!

Monday, May 16, 2011. Do Teachers Prepare Students For Their Future? It is important for teachers to understand the power and complexity of learner motivation. What motivates students, and people in general, is a very broad and complex question. As a " super-fan". Has their K-12 education prepared them for their futures? This is a key question, and one that I believe all teachers need to reflect on. Is their work, in any grade, in any classroom preparing students for their future? As a teacher, I look at...

The trials and tribulations of a varsity athlete/math enthusiast. March 24, 2013. Coming off an injury at the end of the XC season this year, I’ve been struggling to get back into a regular training routine. Starting to feel a little injury plagued; have a week or two of solid training to have an old injury flare up and put me back on the shelf. I’m fired up to start running again and see where I end up.
